Great product. Customer support right in app and always quick to respond.

Reviewed on 2018/02/07

Pros

This product is incredibly simple to use, but a very powerful tool. The calendar makes organizing projects by due date easy. You can quickly see what's coming up and space them out when a larger project takes more time. The search function to find past projects is imperative.

Doing takeoffs is much easier now. I can export final dwgs and reports so that my sales rep can go back and see exactly what I quoted and where. All the work is saved so I can back and reference it or change it if plans change.

The lines and symbols are easy to read and quick to set up. You can dimension the plans when needed and add call outs. The cloud tool is useful for items I have a question about. I can even copy and paste a line several times instead of having to draw it out each time.

Being able to add labels to the takeoff is crucial. It makes my quotes much more powerful when I say exactly where I found each product. It also helps if there is a change to the plan later. I can easily remove one section by using the Geometric Report instead of having to dig through all the plans.

The ability to use two screens is awesome! When I find a particular detail and have to match it to the plan, it is much easier to have one screen with the detail and one with the plan.

Cons

Some things are not customizable. I can't change the default dimension color or size. But once you set it, it remembers the changes for that page only.

I can't rearrange the sheets with the tabs on top. I have to open them in the order I need. So if I find a detail on another sheet, I may have to close some tabs and them reopen them in the order I need.

It does integrate with Excel reports, but Excel charges a monthly subscription for that. I am also waiting for the symbol search tool.

There is a learning curve but once you know the product the time savings and accuracy you get is great.

Pros

We use a small portion of the STACK Product to do takeoffs on roofing, Siding and Metal only. It is a service we offer to our customers and the time savings of doing it digitaly and not with a print and scales is priceless. We are at a point that we can now charge a fee for the service as well

Cons

We only use a small portion of the product but pay for the whole thing. It would be great if you could pay for only the segments you use.

My experience with Stack

Pros

I love stack overall. Its super easy to use and we take advantage of the integration that’s in it.

Cons

I wish they had more mark up features. Such as arrows, boxes, circles, and I also wish they had a better cloud markup tool. To make it adjustable of the sizing and not just one size.

Again, I would need to go through a whole lot of questions and requests I've made through tech support and find out that 80% or more of them are not features included in Stack.

Pros

it's fairly easy to use if you only use the basics. The think that I like and the reason why I personally pushed for this software is the fact that is web-based providing liberty to use any platform (Mac or PC) and basically work from anywhere.

Cons

It's easy to use for those who work the basics. For others like me that like to get the most out of it, quite honestly there is a lot to improve. I would need to go through a whole lot of questions and requests I've made through tech support and find out that 80% or more of them are not features included in Stack. It's a little disappointing the way some aspects are handled.

The problems we're solving with STACK include material estimating for large scale retail remodels and large custom residential homes. It's important to know how much of what type of materials to order - not too much, and certainly not too little. STACK has helped us save money by not over ordering, due to the fees associated with returns.

Pros

I began using STACK with an employer that I had worked for several years ago. The ease of use, accuracy, and stellar customer support for the times I really needed it is why I have also decided to use STACK to perform estimations on my own for side jobs and have brought it along with me to my current employer for daily bidding and material takeoff use. I couldn't imagine going back to pen and paper.

Cons

Since STACK is constantly improving and rolling out new updates, I can't think of anything off hand that could be added or improved. There have been a couple of times that I called in with requests that were actually implemented into STACK, which really speaks to their attention to their customers.

Stack helped us develop our business

Reviewed on 2023/07/31

Pros

Stack was a user friendly software. It only took me helping one time when time was a crunch to become good at it, and from there I became the company expert. Developing and re-developing assemblies until we had a system that works and is easily understood. We went from taking upwards of 8-10 hours per estimate, to 2-4. That is more than worth it for time saved

Cons

Not being able to change numbers on a project level without going into the excel type worksheets or affecting the database. And not having an audit trail of when something was changed in the database. both have caused us problems with numbers needing to be changed for one project because we deal with highly customized scenarios, and then it changed all projects going back. And because we rely so heavily on assemblies, we cant just plug a new custom item in every time.

Pros

The fact that it is all online and our ops guys can see the plans at the jobsite from their phone.

Cons

I love using your software but there are 2 things that I would like for you to improve.Sometimes I upload multiple pages for a project. When I am working on the takeoff you can see On the left the plans that you are working on listed on listed by plan name . It would be nice to be able to go to the pages that you are working on by simply clicking on the page name that is listed on the left side.Slope factorIts great that we are able to measure the basic slope by using the built in slope factor calculator. But that is only helpful for measuring the basic slope of the roof area and the rake and sidewall. But it would be great if you can add the valley and hip factor as well. It is hard to get the exact measurement without that because the hip / valley slope factor is different than the basic slope of the roof. Please see the link below that will explain what I am talking about in regards to the hip and valley. [sensitive content hidden]

User friendly but Estimates with Labor and Quantity of Materials needs to improve

Overall it's a good software platform, although the learning curve takes a lot of work and time to get used to how it functions to get to your overall goal, which is an accurate estimate from electronic plans/aerial images. Id say the best feature is the takeoffs since its so fluid. The Reports tab and Estimates tab needs some improvement though. I would even add an additional tab for things like proposal generation or a landing page for Salesforce.com.

Pros

It's very user friendly when you know how to make Stack work for you.. The vibrant colors associated to it. The fluidity of the takeoffs. The modern, cutting-edge technology.

Cons

The Estimates tab feature needs to be improved dramatically. It is not only confusing with the wording and placement of cost categories, but the pricing can be off sometimes. The labor or Degree of Difficulty should have a function with the assemblies to realize how hard of a job it is and factor that into the estimate automatically. Also, the pricing in the Material costs category should have a box with Quantities that you can change to a whole number, not a percentage ('Waste'). Because at that point your guessing how much to take out or add out of 100% to get to the number you want and it's time consuming and difficult to do it that way.

I really like using this product. I feel it is a better software than I have used before but it is still missing a few things. But it is consistently integrating new and better things making it a better product overall.

Pros

I like that no matter where I am I am able to use the product with the plans I used. Makes it easy to be out in the field and in the office.

Cons

I feel like one area that could be improved on is if you hover over a measurement it should give me the details. I can get them but it is not easy to get to.

Pros

The software is incredibly easy to use. After one tutorial from the stack support team(which is also a huge plus), I felt very comfortable navigating the platform. Assemblies are a fantastic feature.

Cons

I could use a tutorial(maybe it already exists) for interchangeability from stack to estimating software like Sage, or Project Management software like procore. This will likely be a next step for the company.
