The best editing software for educational videos

Camtasia is a program that helps me enormously in my work, although there are very powerful video editors, they become complicated to use and have a very high cost. Its ease of use allows you to obtain quality results without being an expert in the area of video editing. It includes the screenshot tool which works perfectly. The cost-benefit ratio seems very good to me. I definitely recommend it.
Pros
It is a very easy program to use, but at the same time, it is full of tools that make your work easier and allow you to obtain very good results.
Among its best features are:
- Easy to edit videos, take part of them, make cuts, speed up or slow down and manage layers
- You can easily add shapes, arrows, texts and graphic elements, and it is very easy to define their duration and position in the video.
- Its screenshot tool is great, it has the correct and enough options, it allows to capture the screen and the webcam at the same time and edit them in separate channels.
- It has audio effects, few but functional and well selected, noise reduction, fade in and fade out. No more is needed.
- Video pan and zoom tools are easy to use.
- The export is simple and different profiles can be handled.
- It has subtitle function
- Easily separate the sound from the video and you can easily control the volume
- Video documentation is very good
Cons
What I think can be improved is really little.
- The program takes a while to start, but once opened, it works smoothly even if you don't have a large computer, in my case, with 8 GB of ram I can use it correctly.
- Some things are missing customization options, but you rarely miss them
- The templates and elements that are included are limited, if you want more they have a cost that seems high to me if you have already paid for the software.
- It seems to me that it lacks an autosave option, I have already had to lose a few hours of work due to a power failure.

Great! I've used Camtasia in few of my straightforward video editing projects with a client. It's pretty sleek and clean to use. Highly recommended for video learning and vloggers.
Pros
- Camtasia is more cleaner and more seamless than any other simple video editing software. Though, again, this is not for pro and die-hard video editor.- Simple to use with dedicated learning modules. So, easy to learn.- Capture audio/video and add up voice-over - all-in-one with Camtasia.- Highly recommended for UX Designer during usability testing. This can record screen and audio output/input from test subjects.- YouTube upload is seamless as well.
Cons
- More often video output are large. And if you lower the size, the quality suffers. I hope Camtasia has fixed or improve on this one.- If you buy this. Though you can have a perpetual ownership of the software - the update maybe not. Currently, it's like $50 per year for the support and updates.- Not for Pro users who are fond of exceptional effects and motion graphics.- You need separate audio mixer and editor for this one. No inbound audio editor and filter.

Camtasia a once solid performer has really gone downhills

I use to consider Camtasia to be rock solid and then several months ago I bought an update to a newer version. It has been a nightmare for me ever since. I have or had support but they are always gone and it is very difficult to submit a support ticket. Even then, I waited several days for them to return to work and all they did was find the same pdf I had already located which did not resolve my issue and close my ticket. It was all a complete waste of my time and money. The software crashes constantly now and I lose work with no end in sight. The updates never seem to improve anything anymore. They just seem to introduce more and worse crashing and lack of reliability. I don't feel the company is committed to this solution any longer. They just try to keep it out of the ditches and that is all.
Pros
It is fairly easy to schedule a recording although the constant updates lose your settings each time.
The output files as an MP4 are convenient to view although you have to fix settings every time you go to render.
Basic editing can be quick and easy but it can also get less than desirable results.
Cons
Support is unreliable for the product. Very limited hours and all they do is find what you can find yourself.
Updates are very obtrusive with this software. They tend to crash and I have to completely uninstall and reinstall the software to get it up and going.
Updates are short-lived. I apply updates to resolve feature issues and a couple of weeks later it is in trouble again and needs more maintenance.

I would give it a 95 out of 100. I have very few complaints. I have created some really great looking videos that the average person would not be able to tell if this were done in a program that cost thousands more.
Pros
Easy to get in and do screen captures and video editing. A growing library of cool animations, templates, and effects that they continually add to. Quick tools that are easy to learn to do a lot of effects that are dangerously close to pro platforms like adobe and final cut, only without the massive rendering time etc.
Cons
Some of the effects are a little cheap looking, but the library of options continues to grow. Sometimes the crashes and bugs are annoying, but I've seen that in the big programs as well. ESPECIALLY FINAL CUT PRO

I've been using Camtasia for years and while I have looked at other systems, I always come back to Camtasia because it remains constant, even when the latest versions are released.
Pros
The best thing I like about Camtasia is that it always stays up to date with video creation trends, so that you can always create relevant videos.
Cons
If there's a failing, it's simply the learning curve. But really, that's not a failing. It's only because there are so many cool features that it can take a while before you get into the swing of video creation. Once learnt though, it becomes a breeze.

Overall, it's a great product. One has to take the time to learn some of the features, but it fulfills almost all professional and personal needs.
Pros
It's great for editing existing videos or creating new ones. The timeline, once you get used to it, is simple and powerful.
Cons
Adding text to videos could be a lot easier. It takes quite a bit of time to figure out, especially if you're a non-training-video watcher. The encoding speed for the exported videos could use a boost.

I have switched to other video editors. They're either overly complicated (too feature-rich) or too expensive. Some are too simplistic. Camtasia continues to be the easiest to learn, use, and deploy videos. Regardless of whatever tools I try, I keep coming back to Camtasia.
Pros
Camtasia is intuitive. It's pretty easy to understand how to get samples into the editor, how to cut scenes, how to stack videos and audio. There are a lot of audio and video effects that are obvious as to how to use them and what they do. The barriers to entry are very low. And it's a decent price for the capabilities.
Cons
The new "Background Removal" is not great (moving around causes flickering). A long-time complaint is a lack of Video Titling. No easy way to time-reverse a snippet. Chromakey (remove color) doesn't work well.

I just finished an intensive 6-months project using Camtasia for editing a 30+ hour educational videos series for artists.
I had used Camtasia casually for 7-8 years , for fairly small projects, so this was a big step up in my requirements. My timeline generally started with 3 video feeds (3 angles on my work table), a separate audio feed, and Powerpoint slides, then I'd layer in special effects, annotations, and other items. I did have to upgrade my hardware so it could keep up (including an SSD drive) but the software did amazingly well.
Since I had been using Camtasia for other work projects for several years, and I've seen improvements in each upgrade. They still put a lot of effort into improving the product.
I'm very happy with my results - my videos look professional and well put together. With over 30 hours of video content, it would be easy for the series to become boring, but I can switch camera angles, add transitions, annotations, and other elements which keep it fresh and interesting.
I have no hesitation in recommending Camtasia.
Pros
The product seems to be honed in to provide the features that are critical to non-professional video editors. Ease of use is great, and it has all the features I need to create professional videos
Cons
A few bugs have popped up here and there, but they've been fixed quickly. I wish it were a little easier to mix in multiple video angles

I have used it for a long time, I have been using it for more than 3 years, and after gaining experience with the video editing method and taking the basics, I began to dig deeper into more professional software.
Pros
Camtasia is the first program I have used in my life to edit my videos, had it not been for the use of this program in the beginning, I would not have been able to use more professional programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
I've used it for a long time and through it I've moved on and digging into other programs, and I admit it's an excellent program and a lot of people have gotten started with it.
I used it for two things, the first is to edit my videos, and the second is to record my screen
It is a very easy-to-use feature, the user interface is very simple, it has a lot of ready-made transitions between videos, as well as special transitions for texts, and also photo animations, you can put video subtitles, add graphic shapes and arrows, there are some sound effects that you can use very quickly In processing files and exporting videos.
Camtasia targets the novice user in this field, because you can create simple videos of very high quality.
Cons
Camtasia lacks the most important feature, which is automatic saving, when the power is cut off, all the project I was working on disappeared, and I had to go back to build the entire work
Also, it does not have professional transitions like in other programs, it is light, simple and limited in use.

Really good! Great product if you're doing screen capture videos, and the editor interface is intuitive. Customer service is good. Fair warning on the mobile Capture app, but that's more of a nice to have than an essential feature, and other than that this is a fantastic product that's very reasonably priced.
Pros
It's easy to use, and it does a great job of all the basic things you need it to do.
Cons
The only quibble I have at all is that the mobile app (Capture) is buggy. When it works it's super useful, but it frequently doesn't work for me, which has caused me major heartache at times. It's gotten to the point where I no longer use it, as I can't afford to lose work. The downside of this is that, while I can use my iPhone's native screen recording feature, 1) that has its own bugs, namely that if I record for longer than a few minutes it'll freeze, and 2) it doesn't record sound. The only reason the sound recording aspect of Capture is useful to me when the app is working is that it allows me to visually sync my desktop and mobile Capture tracks. Basically, when I'm including mobile content in a video, it's usually overlaid on top of a desktop background. I use a condenser mic to capture high quality audio, so I don't even use the audio from the Capture app in the finished product, but it's useful to have, because I can separate the audio and video from the Capture track and visually line up the audio with the audio from my condenser mic. So this just makes my editing process a little easier. It's not that big a deal, definitely not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice if they'd address it at some point.

Overall, I'm happy that Camtasia was recommended to me. I have super-equipped software that I can use to create all of my videos and audios as an online course developer. Uploading to video platforms is also really quick and easy. It is a lot of fun to take pictures with the green screen and then display a news studio. Camtasia makes my job easier for me.
Pros
There are many functions and they are very intuitive. I was a beginner and quickly found success with my first beautiful video. You can merge many tracks for pictures, Power Point, music and speech. Videos and audios can be edited very nicely. Cutting is also very easy with the functions. There are plenty of ready-made templates in the internal library. Any format can also be imported from the computer. Price and performance are absolutely appropriate. I have signed a maintenance contract and can use the latest version with better and better functions every year. Great.
Cons
I found the many setting options a little difficult at the beginning. It took something to recognize the changes when attitudes were different.
A help display with a hint would be good if you create an intro, for example, and fill in the data. Kind of an indication that it is to be saved for further, later videos.
The result is very large files that I have moved to external hard drives. Importing them from there was cumbersome but feasible.

My experience with Camtasia and Techsmith in general has been very positive. It's extremely beginner friendly; the mental bandwidth necessary to get started is low. But it's more than adequate for more detailed, more polished videos too, so my whole team can safely use Camtasia, regardless of our individual level of skill.
Pros
Camtasia is easy to use and easy to understand. Video editing pros will be satisfied with the level of control that Camtasia offers, while newbies will appreciate how intuitive and uncomplicated all the basic actions are. Camtasia makes it easy to turn an idea into a rough demo in a very short amount of time, which is its best strength. This is a critical step in the creation process, so the benefit here can't be understated.
Cons
Though it's not lacking features or control, video editing pros and gurus will occasionally notice a small feature missing that more complex tools would have included. Also, simple animations are easy enough with Camtasia, but more complex animations are going to be laborious. Most users won't ever really run into that problem.

I have used Camtasia for a few years now, and have transferred it across to my new roles as it is a tool I prefer over other pieces of software. It offers a very easy set-up, with various opportunities to enhance videos. It also has a built-in screen recorder which is always handy, with the ability to add audio, voiceovers and much more! I plan to continue using Camtasia indefitinitely, and hope others get on board with using such a great tool! Always looking forward for updates and new developments with the software. It is a winner!
Pros
There are many reasons why I choose to use Camtasia over other software. Firstly, the set-up offers a simple and seamless user interface for creating, recording and editing videos. Whether you are a beginner or advanced video editor, this tool allows for a comprehensive experience. Camtasia offers inspiration for video creation, as well as multiple tools, effects and transitions that have helped bring our videos to life. The timeline offers an understandable way of creating projects, unlike software such as 'Premier Pro' which is very specific in it's target audience of trained professionals. Camtasia has everything you need in once place, and is a software that would make naybody feel confident in using!
Cons
The only thing I would mention, is that when exporting the final video, much like all software, so this is very much a 'me thing' - is that, if you move any content used in the video to a different folder on your user drive, you need to re-connect the images when opening the editing file again.

Camtasia was simple to set up, is fairly intuitive and fun to use. Because I create training videos and gifs, Camtasia's annotation tools are amazing. If you mark up screen recordings, use Camtasia. You'll save minutes to hours on every single video you create.
Pros
Camtasia wins for several reasons. They make it easy to capture screen recordings, easy to script and record VO, and provide great standard annotation tools. Other video editing tools like Premier or Video Studio don't offer annotation/markup options out of the box. This one feature has made Camtasia worth the ticket price.
Cons
The software seems to lock up and crash periodically. This is frustrating and I likely would have left...but the annotation and recording tools are so amazing that they outweigh this problem.

Fantastic for recording demo videos

Camtasia has made recording demos exceptionally easy for anyone.
Pros
Camtasia is extremely easy to get started with. The trial version is fully featured and time-limited. You have 30 days to try out the software. I wanted to record a demo which was fairly complicated and involved lots of different windows. After installing Camtasia, simply load up the software, arrange what you want to record, then press the record button. You can set an area for recording which is helpful when dealing with large displays. After finishing the recording, you can then spend the majority of your time editing the video. Camtasia is not as fully featured as Adobe Premiere, but for this use case it really doesn't need to be. Being able to splice video, add various effects (like speed up), and add audio is sufficient enough. I haven't looked into the more advanced features yet as the basic features are good enough for my needs. Lastly Camtasia enables you to export video in multiple formats and finely tune the size based on the video / audio quality.
Cons
The only gripe I have is that the yearly plan is somewhat pricey for me at $299 per user per year. However they do offer a free upgrade to the next version. And the renewal fee is reasonable at $50. Overall the ease of use is worth the license cost.

Pros
It is easy to install and get up and running. I think some of the limits are from not spending time learning. Each time I goto a FREE training I learn a lot but I really need to invest more time into learning the software. I think my videos are getting a lot better.
Cons

I am fairly biased that I fell in love with camtasia as it hardly pose a bigger problem of using it. Beautiful fonts of text annotation, smoother transition of video between scenes, high quality audio and voice over and most importantly its integration with powerpoint presentation
Pros
It is the most pc friendly video creation & editing software with superb performance of renderring. Highly functional and rich-feature software. Friendly and Easy to use.
Cons
Camtasia recording may take a lot of file capacity.

My Go-To Software for Capturing and Editing Video

My overall experience with Camtasia has been extremely positive. I love the ability to separate audio and video tracks at the touch of a button. That feature has come in handy more times than I can count. And unlike other video editors I have worked with, Camtasia just works as I expect it to every time.
Pros
Camtasia is my go-to software for all things video, and also for audio. Its versatility and ease of use have any other software of this kind beat in my opinion. I can record a video or import video from almost any source and edit it quickly to produce final clips that I can then export and drop into an eLearning course, publish online or use in communication. If I could only have one program for handling video, Camtasia would be my choice every time.
Cons
I am hard-pressed to think of anything that I don't like about Camtasia. It does what it does very well without any fuss. The only thing I can say is that there is a lot going on on the screen with Camtasia and I have found it difficult to use on only a laptop screen at times. It is best used on a desktop screen or second monitor.
