My Go to Print Layout Choice For Years

I've been using Quark for so long now that I find it hard to imagine using anything else. At a client's encouragement - and because they owned the software - I did try Scribus but for me it just did not have the same feel or great function that Quark has so after a few hours experimentation I politley delined to keep using it and went back to what I know (and achived excatly what they were looking for anyway)
Pros
Since I first used this software in college (which was more than a while ago) although it has changed and evolved in my opinion it has never stopped being the best layout creation tool there is. I've used it over the years professionally across all kinds of projects and niches and even personally to create materials for the kids' soccer teams etc. And customer service always has been truly top notch, something that is increasingly rare these days.
Cons
The newer Adobe integrations can be annoying and for my purposes not that helpful. Yes, there are days when I wish it had never happened but not to the point that I will actively go looking for something else as an alternative.

Versatile Desktop Publishing Program

Overall, QuarkXPress is relatively easy to learn but does not offer the handholding of strictly user-oriented software. I've used Quark since the mid-90s when it was a DOS-based package, and we printed a 32-page monthly children's publication. Quark is a standard program for commercial use and has few competitors. I've used virtually every version since Quark's DOS days. I've published POD books up to 600 pages with Quark.
Pros
Easy to create a print book that looks as professional as the ones from major publishing houses.
Cons
When you do a File Save As, Quark continues to use the original file instead of switching to the new file you saved, as all other document processing software does. For example, assume you've created a "template" file that is the basic starting point of some common output. You do a File Save As to MyNewBook, but the focus remains on the Template. If you don't remember to open MyNewBook, your changes end up in the original Template file instead of MyNewBook. It's not a show-stopper, but it's annoying at times after realizing all of the changes are in the original starting file and not the one you created.

Overall, not unhappy but each of my project experiences left me wanting more ... design options, layout options, integration with other software I use.
Pros
It's a page layout powerhouse and does what it is intended to do. It's fairly user friendly and easy to learn the ins and outs.
Cons
Because Quark is a stand alone software, it loses any integration options with other programs that designers use on a daily basis. For this reason alone, it's difficult to rationalize using Quark instead of InDesign, which has so many crossovers with Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.

the workflows are straightforward and not overloaded with windows.
working with images is very fast: double-click on the image content and you're in photoshop. and also: copying image content and pasting it into other windows, so simple, so ingenious
the price-performance ratio is excellent.
the html interface is very good.

I love Quark. If you want ease of use, versatility, and a layout program that just makes sense, Quark is for you.
Pros
The ease of use. I have tried In design, Canva, and Affinity publisher and none beats out the power and ease of Quark.
Cons
I feel like Quark has tried to make itself more like In Design. Quark 6.0 was the best version and beats out all the others hands down for ease of use and versatility. I feel the new versions are less Quark and more In Design.

I have known QuarkXpress for many years. I've also tried programmes from competitors. But I've always come back to QuarkXpress because it's simply great to use and encourages me to work.
Pros
My favourite thing about QuarkXPress is how easy it is to use. No cluttered side menus.
A well-structured programme that is fun to work with. You quickly find your way around the programme.
Cons
A good question that is difficult to answer because the programme is so good. Perhaps the programme could start faster. But this could also be due to my computer.

Cons
Quark 2018, which I bought on the App Store, crashed every 10-15 minutes. When I upgraded the OS, it wouldn't open. The Quark person explained that it's not compatible with Monterey. I literally had the software for three months but Quark would not give me a credit on an upgrade.

I started with Quark Xpress back in the the late 1980's with a box of floppies. Took two hours to install on a Mac Classic. I had no instructions, just the box and the computer. My boss had traded it from a design company that owned him money. So, I am self-taught. But, I have been a faithful user ever since. I have work at print shops, newspapers all over the country and all have used Quark. I actually got fired from a job designing magazines because I wouldn't change over to InDesign when they decided it was a better program. So, I went out on my own, and never looked back. Here we are Quark 2019, 30 years later, not quite so simple to use, but still the best typesetting software available.
Pros
I use Quark in design magazine daily. And it's so easy to set up templates for any job I am gettin ready to do. And I can import InDesign files, pdf, and most other files into my program.
Cons
Cost is getting a little out of hand. Seems like each year they are wanting me to pay so I can get an upgrade.

When I began using Quark roughly 15 years ago, I would so anything to try to avoid it. It was intimidating and frustrating and, at the time, only a mac program. I desperately tried to convert as many files as I could to Adobe InDesign because I was more comfortable on the pc platform. Now, I love Quark and would prefer to use it over anything else. Having a PC platform version really was the key in my eyes. With recent versions, Quark has become much less intimidating and more inviting to non-industry professionals.
Pros
Quark really is the best when it comes to page layout and typesetting design. The features and abilities far surpass other layout programs.
Cons
Although recent versions have been improving, Quark can be rather intimidating to learn and not the most user friendly.

Amazing we use it for years, but we have to change to more modern product can solve the current workflow of digital/print media
Pros
Quarkxpress was the standart for printing. we really love it, we use it for make books, and magazines. Is relative easy to use (not easy but kind that) and get results.
If you go for make prints books, is amazing... but if you work in print and digital media... well is gonna be a pain.
Cons
The big issue is QuarkXPress dont adapt to the "new standards", like make books for prints and digitals with all the formats (epub, kdp, and other) for all the markets.
So you have remake the book for digital, other products save that more time because offer a solution to that problem
Also the pricing is very expensive, they should try to find another model
In the last 5-10 years they lost the market because of that. I hope QuarkXPress get it because we love it
