Unreal Engine is the most powerfull all-in-one editor for video games creation, and much more ! It's driven by newests technologies that make this engine an absolute must have !And last but not least, it's free !

Cons

Unreal Engine 5 suffer from his high end technologies. There're so much integrated tools, features and options, beginners, solo developers and small studios can easily be lost.Android export is not easy, and optimisation of mobile games can be a real pain...

Achieving near-perfection in the Unreal Engine

In terms of visual fidelity, Unreal Engine is great for game jams. However, when working on commercial games, Unreal Engine projects can get out of hand. There are many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be overwhelming, frustrating, or even a good idea, but there are also many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be the best option for your project. The Unreal Engine can be a good tool if your entire team is familiar with it, depending on the type of game you're making.

Pros

The visuals in Unreal Engine games are stunning, and the cross-platform capabilities are excellent. Technically, it's superior to Unity, but in terms of usability, it's more stable. In terms of updates and bug fixes, Unreal is ahead of Unity, and its pricing is unbeatable.

Cons

The node material editor is the only thing I can think of that I don't like. It's not very user-friendly, and the names of the nodes required to construct a material are unlike anything I've seen in any other DCC. Because of just that one aspect, the learning curve is quite steep.

Alternatives Considered

Unity

Reasons for Switching to Unreal Engine

I think the level of design was more in line with what we expected within the team. it was just for that.

After more than 2 years of use, we can confidently say Unreal Engine is the best software for 3D visualization Game Development and Simulation. The realism is UNREAL.

Pros

We here at Creative Alliance are involved daily in graphics designing and 3D animation. Unreal Engine is our go-to software for daily content. We have been able to provide high quality content to our consumers with Unreal Engine and recent Metahuman Editor integration has been a bonus.

Cons

There is absolutely nothing negative about it because we have switched from another software to Unreal after finding absolutely no flaws.

If you want to build a game and have 0 experience, THIS IS FOR YOU!

Fantastic, this is the only program I would recommend for low experience first timers, and even the more experienced, although for those reading this review, if you are more experienced, you probably should go read another review from someone who has been doing this for years. But if you are reading this as a low-experienced person, this is the program.

Pros

There are so many pro's to using Unreal Engine it's ridiculous, so I am just going to keep it general because I doubt I could even remember all the specifics. Simply put, it actually FEELS like a company that WANTS you to succeed. I came into Unreal Engine with 0 experience and have been able to program a game (it's unfinished) where my character can move, my map is procedural generated, I've got enemies that move/attack, I figured this out from complete scratch, I have never coded anything in my life and I was able to do this with free tutorials (except for one time where I paid $1 to someone's patrion to help with enemy detecting players and stuff like that). Back to what I was saying at the beginning where they actually want you to succeed, at every turn it felt like there was someone there helping me, for instance I needed combat items and pick-up-able items in my game, and I was 100% I was going to have to ALSO learn a program like blender to make those items and import them over, nope, they have a free store IN the engine that allows you to just grab stuff like that, and they are fantastic, not just some crap. They have different numbers of triangles for each item, even the one (I'm blanking on the name) but where the triangles reduce when you are further away. They have thousands of materials for anything you would like, they legitimately want to allow people like me, with 0 experience, to make anything they want, and the do a heck of a job at it.

Cons

There are no cons, there are legitimately no cons. Now take this with a grain of salt because I came into with 0 experience and am probably around 500-1000 hours in now, so there could be cons I could not identify, but I think even someone with experience would agree, because even with the nodes that are designed to make programming a game easier, you can edit with C++ if you are some advanced-game-making-wizard and want to make them customized. I just don't see why you would make a game on any other platform at this point.

Unreal Engine: The Game Engine for You

Unreal Engine has been a great engine to use for both prototyping and fine tuning projects. The built-in tools as well as the axillary tools available for download and integration result in your dreams truly being the limit, as can be seen in many amazing, extremely high quality games made using Unreal Engine.

Pros

Unreal has been used for a number of triple A games, and after using the product, it is understandable why. Many features are easy to pick up, but underneath the simplicity the nuts and bolts are very complex and well integrated. With a thorough knowledge of coding, one boarders on wielding magic when using Unreal Engine.

Cons

The learning curve is rather steep, as is to be expected; coding, game development, etc, is hard, and takes much knowledge and skills. However, Unreal Engine provides many learning aids both in the program itself and in axillary programs they run and support. Once the base knowledge has been gained and imprinted into the mind, the tool only becomes more useful.

My personal overall experience with Unreal Engine is extremely positive. When I get inspired to make a beautiful 3D scene, I instantly go into Unreal Engine to create amazing lifelike 3D Graphics.

Pros

By far, the most enjoyable feature in Unreal Engine is the stunning graphics it is able to produce; all with a click of a button! Unreal Engine is by far the most powerful game engine available to the public.

Cons

Of course, with stunning graphics comes cost of performance. However, Unreal Engine manages to keep these hardware requirements rather low in today's standards as it utilizes its feature of streaming assets to improve performance. Unreal Engine's least great feature is the hardware requirements.

Overall Unreal Engine is a very good engine, it is a technological marvel that created an almost real life graphics.

Pros

I like Unreal Engine because of the beautiful graphics and visuals it creates and with the release of unreal 5, it boosts the visual fidelity and also introduced nanite technology.

Cons

Due to Unreal Engine being visually good, it has a demanding computer performance and needs at least a mid-tier computer to be able to run it.
Also it is not user-friendly because of how complex the tools and UI of Unreal to new developers.

Unreal Engine is always interesting to use in game jams for graphical fidelity, though at times Unreal Engine projects can become a mess when working on commercial games. People need to know accurately what they're getting into when building a new game in Unreal, because for some it's overwhelming, for others it's like trying to get a game out of modding a first-person shooter, and then for some it ends up being a good choice for their game.

Once your whole team is experienced with it, Unreal Engine can be quite good, depending on which genre of game you're going for.

Pros

Unreal Engine games are excellently visually impressive, and the cross-platform functionality is very good. Even though it's more technically impressive, it's still more stable than Unity. The updates are frequent and prioritize bug fixes more accurately than Unity, and Unreal's pricing is certainly second-to-none.

Cons

A lot of aspects of the editor are unnecessary to make a good game and end up getting in the way more than anything else. The occasional crashes are always saddening, but it's still more stable than most of Unreal's competition.

Overall, novice and experienced game makers should definitely try it. Personally, I've found it enjoyable and have made numerous 3D environments. Even while it could be challenging at first, with little practice, you'll get the feel of it.

Pros

The user-friendly and approachable design of Unreal Engine is excellent. You don't need to be a programmer to use it and obtain results with it that are helpful. Thanks to its user-friendly interface and rich toolkit, you may use it at any level, from beginner to expert. It offers superior graphic technology and material editors compared to its competitors, which are very helpful to game designers. Unreal Engine's visual scripting makes it simple to create a game even if you've never programmed before. The engine is already capable of running a huge variety of games.

Cons

To be expected with complex software, some of the capabilities are understandably challenging to learn. Finding the logic required to use the Blueprints is the hardest part. Because Unreal engine offers so much to offer those looking to create levels, import animation, etc., it could seem intimidating at first.

I recommend Unreal for any Studio that doesn't need an in-house engine and wants to work on 3D heavy projects. This engine will allow any Studio with the right resources, to create a project that could easily compete with bigger Studios. It's easily accessible, cheap, powerful and has a great history and support to it.

Pros

Being based on an existing game, and evolving since the earlier ages of 3D games, Unreal3D is the perfect match for any Studio which doesn't want to build, maintain and optimize its own in-house Engine. The expertise of Epic, the number of users worldwide and the multiple layers of development allows many different users to access and create assets/features easily. The Engine comes up with a great online tutorial and basic project within the engine, allowing anyone to play around and create prototypes easily. Blueprints are also a great way for anyone to experiment with behaviors and mechanics, without any code knowledge. When getting deeper into the production of a project, the possibility to turn those blueprints into actual C++ code, offers even more optimization possibilities to the developers. The access to a lot of plugins, assets and blueprints on the Unreal Marketplace is also a great way to share knowledge and allow projects to move forward.

Cons

The Engine is heavy and demands a powerful computer. This is a mandatory investment if you want to push your project further. The Engine is also very fat and the bigger it grows, the more space it will take on your versioning software. Unreal3D also offers limited compatibility with git (our version software of choice).

Using it to create lifelike simulations that can be played in development games, it has assisted in the resolution of numerous issues because of its excellent visuals and ease of level design.

People can forget they're in a virtual reality simulation and other projects if they use the VR plugin correctly and the material editor correctly.

Pros

You can use it from novice to expert, thanks to its user-friendly interface and extensive tool set.

Compared to its rivals, it provides better visual technology and material editors that are extremely useful to game designers.

Even if you've never coded before, Unreal Engine's visual scripting makes it simple to create a game.

Cons

Compared to Godot or Unity, Unreal is a more difficult platform to use. Because of the small size of the Unreal community and the restrictions imposed by studio contracts, many people with expertise in Unreal are restricted from freely sharing their knowledge online. In contrast, with Unity, there are literally thousands of websites, youtube channels, courses, and other resources available to anyone who wants to start making games from scratch. Finally, you can make 2D games in Unreal, but it's better to use GameMaker or Unity for 2D games. As a result, the community and engine support have grown and improved.

Unreal Engine is a free to use software to develop games for any platform that you desire. I use it for my personal projects and it has been doing justice ever since.

Pros

Unreal Engine is the single best game development software. It provides high quality graphics and the most realistic lighting ever seen. The Unreal asset store is filled to the brim with the highest quality assets created by the users of Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine also has support for motion capture and VR making your workload less of a stress and more fun. Blueprints is Unreal Engine's easy way of coding for beginners, but you can always switch to C++ code if you are advanced enough. If you are stuck on a particular section of your project, there are many tutorials online that are very useful. Unreal Engine offers many different types of templates for games that you may want to develop, some include first person shooters, third person shoots, vr and many more.

Cons

I have used this software the last 6 months, and every time I like it more, lately i use it for 3d virtual tours for architecture projects and i love it

Pros

Unreal is a very good rendering software, which is very easy to learn and use, one of its main characteristics is that it gives you very good results for the time you work, many things such as lighting, reflections, etc. are very simple with this software and you don't need to watch tutorials for a long time.
The interface is very good and you can start with a default template which will help you a lot depending on the project you want to carry out.
Being a software focused on realistic representation for video games, it also works very well on hyper-realistic representation for architecture.
you can create renders and 3d animations with very good lighting and rendering of textures.

Cons

One of its problems is that there is not a large community of people who use this software on the internet, so it is very difficult to find references and examples on the internet, besides that it is a very heavy program and requires a computer with good specifications to run perfectly.

Fantastic but it is definitely geared toward AAA and AA teams who have a few titles under their belt. While they've vastly improved the new user/newbie experience it has a long way to go to catch up to Unity in terms of onboarding.

Pros

Great workflow, super easy to get started, looks fantastic out of the box, has a well documented support base, native dark mode, blueprinting is fully compatible with C++ now, and a very robust community surrounding the engine.

Cons

It can be a real resource hog especially if you're running less than optimal hardware, the content marketplace is dwarfed by Unity's Asset store, C++ is much more complicated than C# or other engine languages like GDScript/Python, and their licensing structure for royalties leave a lot to be desired.
