We don't have the option to not use Dollars on the Net/Shift4 as our POS system requires them if we want to process CC transactions through our POS Terminals. That being said, I don't mind them and they're very easy to use and actually make tracking down individual transactions super easy if we needed to. Overall, I've been happy with them, but was just a little put off when they more than doubled our prices.
Pros
It is very easy to use and I have no issues batching out our transactions.
Cons
My only complaint is they more than doubled their prices when they started to offer their own processing services, and will only lower/waive their gateway fees if you use them (which I feel is a little scammy).

Pros
Agents are friendly but struggle to provided the needed service.
Called several days ago at noon pacific time North America and could not reach anyone for the approbate department to find out how to can the account.
Was given to case numbers and assured would be contacted within 24 hours.
Day 3 had to call back as no follow up received. Both case files showed notes that if I called back to advise how to close. As we are just using gateway we must go through "Enterprise department". No one from this department is ever available. I was advised the case would be "escalated" would need to contact the "risk department". My "problem" would be addressed. How is this so complicated??????

They are scammers who lock you into deceitful contracts and just continually funnel your hard earned money out of your acct.

I had been a customer for 12 years and put my account on vacation " Degraded status" as I was working out of town and not running my small business for 2024 but did not want to close my account. Customer service was helpful at this time and reversed some previous fees for services I was not using and put me on a basic plan and assured me there would be no additional charges. At the start of 2025 ( January 2nd) noticed a 189.00 charge on my bank account and called the next day to find out what is was for. They said that was a "SEC Security Fee for the previous year" and would do nothing to help unless I started processing again. Left feeling let down and cheated out of 189.00 that I could not afford. I do not recommend this company for a small company that is not processing a lot. I would be willing to change my review if customer service would work with me on the fee as they have been good in previous years about reversing fees for services was not using when calling in. I do not appreciate being held hostage to get reasonable customer service.

My original sales rep from 12 years ago was good when it was owned by Harbor Touch.
Cons
Surprise fees for services I was not using.
Equipment fees for 15 year old equipment I had asked to be removed in previous years.
Fees for statements I did not want.
189.00 Annual fee billed at the end of the year for the previous year that was unexpected, unwilling to work with me.
Had to call once a year to remove services that I did not want that were automatically added back on again a few months later, Rates would creep up annually and I would have to call in and barter to get them back down.

I have a great local rep that I always have to call because the larger company usually cant help.
Cons
when you call for issues, you're on the phone for ever. If you have a Server that runs a credit card on the wrong check and the guest has already left, you as the merchant eat that check amount! Shift 4 is our processor but cannot help you retrieve a credit card mistake! Find another processor!

Not much. The POS system was easy to understand.
Cons
POS system was unreliable, I was on the phone for 2-3 hours every month with them to push updates that would rarely come through. When I called to cancel they wanted me to buy the contract out on the back end even though there was a documented history of their system not being reliable.
Customers have to jump through hoops to get technical support. My personal "best" was 8 forwards to get to someone who knew what was causing my issue.

Installation was an easy task, but the transaction auditing of shift4 vs POS is impossible, they don't have good tools for it.
Their customer service is terrible, we are supposed to have an "enterprise Account" but their response to our tickets is bad and when we get somebody to work with us, they seem to have lack of knowledge of their own software.
Pros
The security of the transaction being encrypted PTP, and the fact that they take care of the whole cc payment process from taking the payment, processing, authorization and batching.
Cons
Too many glitches, many transactions are going into shift4 but not back into POS so the batch auditing is crazy.

There is NO support. None, Nada, Zilch. I cannot possibly express how awful their support is. Further more if they tell you they will have someone get back to you, give it up because you will not, in all likely hood, hear from anyone.

They were great at first, then when it came time to close the account, suddenly no one would...
They were great at first, then when it came time to close the account, suddenly no one would respond, they kept reaching out to "Complete your setup" and when I told them we had cancelled our account, they would just not respond. Once they finally did respond, I was given information to return the terminals and told the MID was closed. The terminals were returned and I did not hear anything else until I got an automated ticket notification 2 months later and then a RMA request another 2 weeks after that. I responded to the RMA and the Ticket and no one replied. Another couple months passed and $900 was taken out of my account with no notice or warning. Its so far a mess and they just keep blaming other departments and have no interest in doing anything about it.
Pros
Initally they were great, and setup was simple, the rates looked good.
Cons
Once we were forced to cancel due to the software providers short comings it was a nighmare for months getting the account closed properly. Getting charged $900 for equipment I returned.

They hide the contract length and early termination fees for their contract via a website titled terms and conditions. No where on the agreement is any mention of contract length or fee for early termination. They also claim to have no escalation process so one person at Legal Support determines what happens. Do not us them. You will regret

Even though their systems are antiquated and their local technician in Jacksonville, FL is incompetent, they make you pay to get out of your contract. You must call customer service to cancel your contract, you can not email it, or send a certified letter, you must call. After today I know why. They can tell you that they have no record of that call. Even after you give them the ticket number, the date, the time, and employee name of the person that you spoke with, they say they have no record of it. Pretty convenient.

It crashed every other Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Always on the busiest nights. They would send out the same local technician who could not solve the problem for four years. We put in a new system in March and have not had the first problem. Zero crashes in 5 months.

Extremely disappointed with the level of service received for our card processing. Support Staff never explained why our reporting was not accurate. Call in an issue, a support ticket would be generated, but never resolved. I don't mind paying for support and proper reporting, but when you charge customers for a service that you don't deliver on, that's just wrong. My best advice is forgo any bells and whistles Shift4 claims as their support is non existent. Turn around and look elsewhere.
Pros
I moved from IRN card processing to Shift4 with the understanding that monthly Reporting and Fees would be more transparent and easily understood. While the fees charged actually showed up in the month they were incurred, the reporting did not reflect the actual transactions.
Cons
Support could never answer or correct the reporting issue we experienced. Our accounting department spent hours each month reconciling our daily batch to their statements. Some months it was impossible, and still, no answer back on support tickets. EVER!.
The icing on the cake was our new card processor could not get us installed before our 12 month contract expired, so Shift4 charged us for the entire following 12 months of support and reporting.

the company lied about reducing there merchant fees and percentage when we came across and less expensive vender. After telling us they would match we stayed only to find out they didn't match. When we approached shift 4 with this, the response was sign this new contract. i want out not a new contract

Nothing, their product and customer service are terrible.
Cons
They charged $16,000 for POS hardware and it was refurbished. They never delivered the credit card terminals but insist they did. They debit $800/mo out of our checking account stating that they will discontinue the debit upon return of the card machines. We called several times and told them WE DON'T have them and "customer service " said there is nothing they can do. Now, we are in contact with the State of NJ DOBI to file a formal complaint.

When I called to cancel, they told me I was on contract and started spewing out cancelation...
When I called to cancel, they told me I was on contract and started spewing out cancelation charges. There is NOTHING on the paperwork you sign that has a yearly contract information. I even have an email from my sales guy (before I signed up) that confirms there was no contract, and no early termination fees.
Be wary, the service is mediocre, and they will absolutely try to cheat you if you cancel with them.
Pros
Local sales guy was nice, appeared to be knowledgeable.
Cons
We used them for about 6 months. My monthly % cost went up every month (from about 2.8% to 3.7%), and I had to call for repeated errors where my deposit did not match my batch. I had to check the deposits and batches over days and weeks to make sure we were actually getting the correct money deposited.

They screwed up the order, the delivery 3x, the installation was a nightmare as they messed up our whole network and they sent morons out to fix it who did nothing and said we were all set. We went with Clover after spending over 50 hours on hold with them and getting nowhere and now we can’t even ship their crappy product back to them because they don’t have us listed as owners of the company that they send bills to. They’re emailing the previous owner shipping labels and when we call them they say we can’t speak to anyone because we’re not who they have listed as the owner.Absolutely moronic and as rude as it gets. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Their customer service is embarrassingly bad. They are rude, inept, arrogant and disrespectful. They lie with confidence while reading their script. They are trained to never let you speak to a manager.

Pros
Easy integration into resort software when it started. Changed billing after we signed up and deducts fee per transaction - rather than a monthly fee.
Cons
Absolutely incompetent staffing. Somehow my profile was deleted in February now late August and I was admin. They can not reset me up to get our reports as we no longer have an administrator. This has been 6 months and we can not get reports.
