Best platform for Freelancing

Overall, Upwork to me is the best freelancing platform. I have used all the biggest platforms and in some of them, it is almost impossible to get jobs, in others, there are a lot of people trying to scam you. Upwork provides a great experience to the freelancers and I would recommend everyone to use it, as a client or as a freelancer.

Pros

Upwork is a pretty straightforward website to navigate. It has a lot of new jobs every second and, as a translator, it helped me a lot getting new clients and projects. 99% of my clients come from Upwork and I couldn't be more satisfied with the platform.
Its security is also a big advantage to the clients and the freelancers since it filters scammers that can be very common on other freelancing platforms.
Customer service has always been 5*.
From a client's point of view, if you need something done, there are thousands of professionals that can deliver high-quality services.

Cons

It can be a bit expensive working on Upwork since having a basic plan only gets you 10 connects per month but you can get up to 50 additional connects per week if the clients reply to your proposal.

I know that Upwork is doing their best to improve their features and overall, I'm very satisfied with it! I like the free connects that they give and this tool is very easy to use even if you're just a first timer.

Pros

I love Upwork that it protects their users. You will be protected to scammers and secured that you will be paid because of the contract you are in. I like it that you can filter the job postings based on what suits you and they give free connects too!

Cons

The calls feature in the messages still needs to be improved. I know Upwork just rolled out the new policy wherein all calls should be made thru Upwork if there are no contracts yet, it'll be better if the quality will be realiable for video calls.

It has been great as an employer, but not so great as a gig seeker.

Pros

As a employer looking for contractors you are quickly and easily surrounded by a pool of talent to choose from.

Cons

As a gig seeker you are outnumbered, and often outbid by people who can afford to do the same job for less. If you don't already have reviews from clients, you will most likely not be selected.

Years ago I was a freelancer on the system offering my services and found the experience to be quite easy and the access to an enormous amount of work quite nice. As a client on the system now, I still find the system easy to use and effective for finding quick and short-term help for business projects.

Pros

I most like the access this platform provides to a global network of varied professionals, including graphic designers, videographer, data entry, data mining, and so much more.

Cons

Using the platform itself is easy but there is a learning curve on how to best find the perfect fit for the need. Reviews and portfolios are helpful but looking for warning signs of an improper fit of freelancer to the specific project need takes time to develop.

Sometimes, me and my team become overloaded with tasks while we need to present the proposal to our customers. That time we require expert support and we do it through UpWork. Our overall experience in this regard is pretty good and we have a long standing relationship with some freelancers as well. UpWork impacted us positively and we rely on UpWork when we require.

Pros

UpWork is a very user-friendly software/platform for posting the jobs and getting the jobs done within the agreed timeline by the experts. It enables the job poster to interview the candidates and negotiate on the project. On the other hand, it helps the candidates to earn money and build a long-term relationship with the clients. It allows the both party to communicate globally.

Cons

I did not get anything least regarding UpWork.

Once upon a time with Upwork!

Reviewed on 2021/07/27

Pros

More than 7 years ago, I stumbled on Upwork doing research on how to earn money from home, and I jumped on it. The interface was basic; easily accessible. I liked the functionality, although I wasn't able to get a client in my region then; i was still a newbie as at the time. I used the web based version then.

Cons

The only issue i had then was that i wasn't able to secure a client...maybe I wasn't patient enough. I like their service all the same.

Working from home is now easy for me. Many job opportunities. I can just choose from an array of jobs posted by clients. You only need to check the client's history b]before bidding for a job.

Pros

The process of creating an account is easy. You just signup with your details. And I only need the internet connection to access the platform.

Cons

Competition is very fierce, especially from more qualified individuals. So as a newbie, getting your first job is not easy. Also, when you apply for many jobs without success, your account is suspended without notice.

A mixed bag. I appreciate upwork for facilitating the ability to work, and find great talent. They just need to work on their freelancer relations.

Pros

I started my career on Upwork, and because I got the opportunity to grow in my field I eventually landed a position where now I am working full time and hiring others from upwork. Upwork allows for talented people to get the chance to make a living.

Cons

It's hard to get started. You're competing with a lot of people who have more reviews, and therefore it's hard to get the first job. Upwork will also always side with the hiring party and never the worker.

I like the functionalities overall, but dislike the high amount of competition and margin Upwork takes.

Pros

I use it from both angles- both for finding freelance jobs, as well as for finding candidates; I love that switching is seamless, finding your messages is a no brainer compared to other UIs, and of course I love the fact that there are many opportunities for freelancers offered online. Also, Upwork staff can help with requests asking for what to post to find freelancers, and their newsletter gives helpful tips pn how to find freelance work.

Cons

As freelancer I find the share Upwork takes a bit too high (they should make it 10% deduction for everyone), and there is a huge amount of competition from low cost countries.

Excellent working space, one can easily get jobs there and also advertise your job there Incase you need work done.
The fact that when I get paid I can easily transfer the money to my mobile money is wonderful.

Pros

I enjoy the security I get after finishing work, I'm assured of my pay even in the case where a client refuses to pay after they have received their work. Up work reviews the work done and if every requirement was met then you'll eventually get your money. Both client and freelancer are secured.
Also I can be able to filter out jobs and view the ones that suit my needs and skill set.

Cons

For one to build a reputation that attracts well paying and long term clients, it takes time.
Bidding for jobs is another issue especially if you are starting out as a freelancer most of your connects are spent bidding for jobs advertised. One might end up losing money.

I have used Upwork since it began and though there a drawbacks, it's an excellent platform to find work and build up clientele.

Pros

Upwork provides a platform from which freelancers can build up clientele and scale their work/business. With a global reach, you can work with interesting businesses based anywhere in the world. I like that I am paid weekly, so it feels more like a regular job and that I have pay protection for every job completed through the platform. It prevents scams and freelancers not getting paid and gives peace of mind in knowing there are tons of people looking for freelancers, all you have to do is apply.

Cons

The biggest drawback is the 20% fee. When you take into consideration you have to pay taxes on top of that fee you are loosing about 40% of your income. There are also a few small technical things that are frustrating, like leaving the hiring person responsible for closing a job (they often don't know to do this).

Access to many clients -- but with high fees

Upwork can be worth your time, and the fees, if you go into it knowing your costs and plan accordingly. My Upwork rates are about 20% higher than my non-Upwork rates to compensate for the exorbitant fees. (When you calculate your rates, remember that you're being taxed on the full amount you're paid, not the amount after fees...) That said, realize that you will have a tough time if you try to start charging expert-level rates on Upwork without reviews and a job success score to back it up. You will almost certainly have to charge less than you're worth at first in order to build the reputation that will allow you to land those higher-paying jobs.

Pros

You can make decent money if you stick with Upwork long enough to build a strong reputation, earn a high job success score, and garner positive client reviews. I've connected with many long-term clients who are willing to pay my rates via the platform. Tracking time is easy and the messaging portal is a nice way to keep track of client communications, files, etc.

Cons

Unfortunately, it takes a while to build a good enough reputation that decent clients will consider you for lucrative jobs. Additionally -- and this is huge -- Upwork takes an enormous fee, 20%, on the first $500 of any job. At that point, the fee drops to "only" 10% (still huge). I do a lot of smaller one-off jobs that never reach the $500 mark, so I pay 20% on most of what I earn through Upwork. Additionally, if you initially connect with a client through Upwork, you have to work/get paid through the platform for a whopping 2 years before you're able to take your contract off-site. That 10-20% in fees really adds up over 2 years on long-term jobs.

I Like this Workplace very much due to its Amazing Features and Services offered to both Clients and Sellers too. Its Bidding System is professional, Interview Environment is Professional, Jobs Features i.e Fixed Price Job and Hourly Jobs are Great. Its Security System is Amazing.

Pros

If it had better time tracking increments (down to the minute) this would be a very good time tracking app for freelancers.

Pros

Easy to use time tracking that only requires one click to start and pause. Periodic activity and screenshot tracking is built in so it is more than just a time tracker. Offline time tracking is a big bonus to areas with unstable internet connection.

Cons

Time tracking is wonky and sometimes inaccurate. The app tries to track time in 10 minute increments so if you work under that amount, sometimes time isn't tracked. Periodic screenshots make it feel like big brother is watching you.

UpWork is a very good freelancing site and there's a lot of room for potential if you keep trying, however,

there seems to be too much competition to even get started and rated, and the bids are too expensive for the average or beginner freelancer.

Some gigs cost like 10 bids, and if you spend the gigs and don't get the job, then you've lost money, because you have to pay for the bids in advance.

So, I think it would be best to build a strong reputation on Social Media or via a Blog, before bidding on gigs on UpWork, so the employers can get a better understanding of who you and what you can do.

Thank You.

Pros

I like the wide selection of gigs available and the useful filters such as filtering Skills and when the Gigs were posted, e.g. you can search for Animation gigs by most Recent.

Cons

I love the wide selection of gigs available, however, I don't like how you need to pay for bids, it adds up over time, and for the most part I haven't received an actual gig as yet, and thus I've lost money.
