Best Software for Dermatology

Reviewed on 2018/08/28

Pros

Nextech is well written and customizable for each provider. Very simple for new staff to pick up when training.

Cons

Dislike the software backup methodology. Could be more streamlined so it takes less time and in addition, you'll need a device to backup a so-called workstation backup (I use a NAS) and the server backup backs up to a folder on the server so you'll need to think about space requirements when engineering a solution. In addition to the built in solution to the software I also backup the entire server using a thrid-party imaging solution.

Experienced User's Perspective - Over 9 years of use

Reviewed on 2023/08/09

Pros

NexTech select is relatively easy to use and set up, I was able to set up our system on my own after 2 years of experience with the system. Finding the first available appointment is a quick way to navigate appointments, the forward button on the schedule is a nice addition (allows you to jump forward by days/weeks/months/years).

Cons

The reporting system needs an over haul. It is very basic and requires you to run multiple reports to achieve the analysis you're looking for. We tried the Enterprise reporting and it too did not allow the level of free customization we were hoping for.

I hand over as much as I can to my medical assistant. It isn't perfect, but it saves me a lot of time.

Pros

It intersects with the scheduling software.

Cons

It takes much longer to complete a task than is necessary. The software is rudimentary and needs a dramatic update. The clinician should not have click, scroll, click, scroll. The dictating function is poor. NT does not accept feedback for requests for greater efficiency. THe future will be AI, ChatGPT3 and 4. The time spent on EHR adds zero to the quality of patient care and is merely a tremendous time suck organized around the function of billing. Billing should be done through AI so clinicians can focus on patient care and going home at the end of the day.

Response from Nextech Systems

Heather, it's disappointing that our software is not performing how you'd anticipated. We are glad to have this feedback, as it offers an opportunity for us to learn and improve. And so you're aware, introducing elements of AI is on our product roadmap for the near future. For now, please reach out to your Nextech representative, access the Community Portal, or contact Client Support at 866-654-4396 so that we can address your concerns further.

Overall Experience has been Fantastic!

Pros

We love the User Friendliness of this platform and the easy access help from the service technicians if they cant fix your issue they will find someone who can in a timely manner. Nextech is always up to date on the latest and greatest technologies and make sure that its clients have the access to that information as well.

Cons

Templating for EMNS is not as user friendly to some people who arent tech savy and with every office being so different in their specific needs its sometimes hard to get a template for the office needs that fits perfectly.

Pros

Medical Practice with multiple locations, we have a seamless integration to go back and forth between practice locations and have no issues.

Cons

Once in a great while we will have internet issues that cause the system to run a bit slower - but it is very infrequent and usually is the fault of our ISP or local bad weather, not a shortcoming of the ICP.

This system as a whole is much easier to adjust, train, and monitor patients better with. I would recommend this to any ophthalmology practice.

Pros

I like how easy it was to implement Nextech, how easy it is to change documents and testing. Seems to help the techs be more compliant with MIIPPs.

Cons

My biggest issue is that we can not personalize or adjust the discussions. So all our instructions on PO have to manually typed in each time or they are incorrect. My other issue is the uploading of imaging.

Overall, the patient portal has worked well for us as well as our patients. It also has helped us to remain compliant with all of the new requirements. Our patients use the portal to obtain their information as well as look at what happened during their patient encounter.

Pros

The patient portal has been great for our patients. They love being able to access their medical records and see results. We also use our portal for patient to login and fill out paperwork as well as make and cancel appointments.

Cons

There is not really anything we do not like about it. It is something that takes time to set up, but overall works great.

Reasons for Choosing Nextech EHR & PM

It was the worst experience ever. I signed a contract at the academy AAO meeting. There were so many fine prints and red flags. First, you pay within 2 months of contract whether you go live or not. They drag their feet. No one contacts you. You call support but no one returns your calls. They do not want to get you live. They will get your money and drag out the process to fit their timeline.

Pros

Nothing is good. It is a switch and bait.

Cons

Their contracts make you pay 36 months of support without providing any support. Please do not waste your time and money. Find another provider.

I have hopes for the system once we get through all of our migration problems. Though we are almost two months post-go live and should not be dealing with these problems any more.

Pros

Reporting options give us what we need to make administrative decisions. AdvancedMD had very poor reporting features.

Cons

The implementation process has been disappointing. We STILL have not had a complete migration of data from our old EHR since we took Nextech's recommendation to use their migration service instead of going through the legacy EHR.

Response from Nextech Systems

Cari, we're glad you're finding value in Nextech's reporting options. However, it is unfortunate that the implementation hasn't met your expectations. We've had tremendous success in the past with the speed and ease of our implementation process, but every practice has its own unique circumstances. Nextech

Initial costs were managed with a no interest loan for three years and reduction in introductory costs. However, the details were so complicated and confusing for first time users of EHS that the unreasonable annual maintenance fees were obscured as we made our decision between Nextech and other systems. The sales person also did not emphasize these annual fees - he only emphasized the 3 years without interest and the lower introductory cost. We have 22 stations and had to pay licensing fees of $1200 for each station. We are being charged $15,000 annually for maintenance and upgrades whether we need them or not. In addition, should we not pay the annual $15,000 fee and need tech support or maintenance the next year, we are obligated to pay the $15,000 from the previous year in addition to the $15,000 for the current year. Last year, we needed no support and the upgrades did not affect us. Thus far this year, we have not needed maintenance or upgrades and so we are researching other EHS systems that have fees for support, upgrades and maintenance on an a la cart basis as needed. If we are not able to negotiate a reasonable relationship with NEXTECH regarding these fees, we will either convert to a new system and effectively lose more than $65,000 in software expenses or convert back to paper and take the penalty cuts until we retire. Fees for services are being constantly reduced and expenses are constantly rising, therefore, as a solo independent practice, we simply cannot afford to budget $15,000 for something we may not or do not need.

Pros

As any other EHS product, it eliminates the paper requirements and increases the legibility and service details documentation.

Cons

Entirely too expensive in ALL regards - $1200 licensing fees to even use the product on equipment we also had to purchase to run the software in addition to #15,000 annual maintenance fee and fees per doctor, etc.

Nextech Scheduling System

I find this system a little more cumbersome to navigate than some and a little easier than others. On the fence with this one. The separation of the different modules by function make this an expensive system. The watered down version is too expensive for the parts that you do get and to me don't make it worth the investment.

Pros

The scheduling system is fairly easy to use and navigate. Entering patient information in to the scheduler is fairly easy.

Cons

I would like more customization with the information fields that suit our practice and needs. The flow of the information on the screen isn't as fluid as it should be in order to have speed with entering data.
