If we didn't have CommandBar for our app, we would have to build some inferior solution

Reviewed on 2023/12/13

Our users love having immediate self-service support and guidance with Commandbar.

Our users love having immediate self-service support and guidance with Commandbar.

Pros

CommandBar gives us multiple “levers” to impact user experience. We can pick and choose the levers that are most relevant for whatever goal we are focusing on at the moment. For example, we can use nudges to drive attention towards valuable features. We can use HelpHub to get users to common support questions without having to pay a support agent to respond to them (and the typical slowness of a human-based chat).

Cons

I wish there were a public API to be able to pull analytics data from CommandBar into other tools. There is a client-side SDK but not a public API as far as a I know.

It was super quick to install and set up, and now it's a key feature in our web application without the need for our software engineers to build or maintain it! We can focus on the core functionality of our application, while CommandBar can bring all it's value on top!

Pros

It's quick to install and easy to customise - so much quicker than building it ourselves! They're always adding new features and making it better for our customers. The support is very quick and they really engage with their customers!

Cons

There are some very minor limitations in terms of customisation, but it's the reliable core functionality that we really care about!

Great tool for customer onboarding & communication

Reviewed on 2023/06/21

Pros

We have found two uses of CommandBar: one is to guide customers through onboarding processes with step-by-step guides and interactive hints, and the other is to display pop-ups and notifications (nudges) to announce new features.

Cons

One of the key features of CommandBar is its documentation search functionality. However, we haven't been able to use this feature yet because CommandBar lacks integration capabilities with our Knowledge base. It would be highly beneficial to find a way to integrate with more knowledge bases, even if it requires manual importing of HTML or TXT articles.

Using CommandBar for in-product AI help

Reviewed on 2023/12/18

Pros

Copilot is one of the coolest applications of AI I’ve seen. The first thing I love is that the answers we get out of it are somehow better than other “GPT wrapper chatbots” that we’ve tried. Kudos to the CommandBar team for figuring out a prompt system that prevents the bot from answering questions that involve information outside of its training set and also being relatively concise (a big problem we have found with other similar products). The ability to trigger tours from the copilot bot is also really cool and not something we’ve found elsewhere.

Cons

Sometimes Copilot can be long-winded in a typical ChatGPT way. Our users don’t have much tolerance for reading so we’ve fiddled with CommandBar’s controls to get Copilot to be more concise and most of the time it works well.

Making search, otherwise an afterthought, front & center to your core product

Pros

I love how many different use-cases one can solve with Command Bar! I mean everytime I speak to the team I learn a new and interesting thing to try out.

Cons

I honestly have not found a single thing I dislike about the Command Bar product. Like any great product, it takes time to learn and use... but so far its been a joy

CommandBar allows our product team to create tours for new features, marketing team to drive attendance for events like webinars, and customer team members to create tutorials that are specific to their customer accounts.

Pros

Basically every SaaS product calls itself a SaaS platform now a days but I like the way CommandBar’s system make it easy for any team member to build experiences that show up in the product according to their needs. So I’m happy for them to be called a platform. Other tools we’ve tried in the space don’t do a good job of handling collisions or rate limiting and so users end up bombarded.

Cons

Some documentation for more advanced features like their release control system was lacking. It would be nice if these features had the same level of documentation as the more basic stuff.

Great experience. Easy to implement and set up, and can be maintained even by non-technical team members.

Pros

Easy to get started, unexpectedly broad feature set, and some of the best support out there.

Cons

The admin UI has quite a few minor bugs. Not as polished as the customer-facing CommandBar.

Big Boost for Discoverability

Reviewed on 2023/04/10

Pros

CommandBar makes it super easy to drop in a really powerful tool for user engagement + discovery. Their integration is seamless, and the ability to update the commands through their UI is great. We had looked at building our own implementation before discovering CommandBar, and felt restricted in terms of developer bandwidth. CommandBar solved all of that - and users love it!

Cons

There is nothing I dislike currently about CommandBar. The team is super responsive and works to make the product better each day.

No brainer addition to any app + deadends are very cool data

Reviewed on 2023/04/01

Pros

CommandBar is the primary search experience in our app. It’s one fast, simple place for users to search for content and actions. Setting it up was quite simple and now almost all ongoing config (adding new commands for example) can be done by a non-engineer on our team. We get lots of compliments on it from our end users. We’re just starting to take advantage of deadend searches but those are a goldmine of user intent because you can see exactly what users were trying to do at any given time they were searching.

Cons

No notable problems. The CB team ships updates very fast and sometimes features make it into the product before the changelog :)

Mainly usability -- lots of users saying "thank you so much for this feature" when we launched it and since. We are also starting to use it more and more for user education since there is a lot you can do in Colabra. Also serves as a dev pipeline accelerator since you can ship something to CB faster than you can ship it to the UI.

Pros

CommandBar power users love Commandbar because it's a fast way to do anything in Colabra. And new users find it an easy starting point before they understand how the product works. Was super easy to set up. Any time we ship something new and want to set it up in Commandbar just takes a few minutes to configure in the editor.

Cons

I can't stop taking screenshots of commandbar in our product :)

Seriously if you're building a modern website or application and don't use a command palette already, this is the easiest solution to get something working in a matter of hours. I like this tool so much I even made a Chrome extension to hack CommandBar into HubSpot to make their system tolerable! Additionally, the support we get directly from their devs is excellent, any issues we find are usually fixed within a day or two of reporting it, if not sooner.

Pros

VERY generous free tier, and their support is top notch. The ability to decide if you want to build commands with code, or with their UI, makes this a very flexible tool. It took very little time to get a functional POC of the product into our application to get buy-in from management.

Cons

If you go above the free tier, it can get expensive, especially if you're providing it to free users. Everyone of your users who *can* use CommandBar counts against your quota (not just users who *DO* use CommandBar). It's still early days for them though, and they're adding a TON of new features that make the price seem much more reasonable.

CommandBar makes the latest trends and good practices in SaaS UX accessible to everyone, at a very accessible price too.

Pros

Very clean interface, combined with a strong set of features make CommandBar a great fit for software companies who want to dramatically upgrade their UX to the latest standards. I particularly like the Universal search, which really makes my website feel like some of the epic websites out there like Notion.

Cons

Website integrations, and particularly Wordpress integration is not as simple as with many other pieces of software, it requires some technical know-how of an IT specialist.

CommandBar has allowed us to connect our product across the core product and supporting documentation, so users have a single place to search from. Their team is small, but powerful.

Pros

We've been using Commandbar for over a year now. It's a great product - easy to use, and integrate with. I've been particularly excited about how quickly they can innovate. They additionally understand your own business constraints and work well with you to ensure they meet your needs.

Cons

I don't really have any dislikes about CommandBar.
