GroupMe Review

Pros
I love that many people can join a conversation on GroupMe. I am able to see the conversation that my colleagues are having to improve or community expectations.
Cons
I dislike that GroupMe notifies the people in the group about everything. If you change your picture, it will notify the group. If you delete a message, it will also notify the group.

Overall, my experiences been great. It helps me stay organized with the different groups and helps us communicate better and create better community.
Pros
It’s easy to differentiate between different chats and I love that you can have different topics within each chat!
Cons
If I had to pick one thing I didn’t like about GroupMe it’s that topics notify everybody in the whole GroupMe instead of just the people in that topic
Reasons for Switching to GroupMe
GroupMe address the issues that we were facing as far as communication goes and didn’t have a bunch of other bells and whistles, and we like that it was so straightforward giving us exactly what we needed for our community- Industry: Health, Wellness & Fitness

Group Me has been super smooth. All the parents quickly get use to the functionality and communicate effectively during the season.
Pros
Having every parents picture and name is so much smoother than a group text with random numbers in it.
Cons
The web based app doesn’t always work when adding numbers. Copying and pasting numbers from a list to the app is cumbersome.

I appreciate that the app helps our group stay in communication. However if I felt there was another free app with minor advertising, I would switch in a heartbeat. I REALLY wish microsoft would put just a little work into making this a better app.
Pros
It is a decent group communication app.
Helps keep 75-100 members of our group notified and reminded of activities.
Can upload photos and flyers.
Works decently if everyone has the app downloaded.
It really could be a dominating app in this segment if it would get some serious attention from the developers.
It is free.
Cons
Microsoft owns GroupMe and has not done significant improvements in YEARS.
SO many random bugs. Constant issues adding members, erc.
If you or members of the group don't have the app downloaded, messages can be spotty.
Even in locked group, spammers find their way in and have to be kicked.
Cannot lock hours of sharing. (late night messages from group can be annoying.)
No schedule send messages.
It would be nice to just have a quick way to respond individually instead of spamming the whole group.

GroupMe is an OK experience. It’s less intuitive than Apple Messages. For me, it’s just one more of too many ways to communicate. Some in our organization just ignore it.
Pros
Easier to add folks to groups and works better across platforms than Apple Messages.
Cons
Tacky, cartoony emojis; less straightforward usage than Messages. And it’s a Microsoft product.

We use it for our Scout pack, it's great when we are coordinating meetings or campouts!
Pros
I love that it texts you when someone sends a message to your group chat. I like that you can privately message people in your chat without having to give over your #.
Cons
Sometimes if you private message someone from a group it doesn't alert them all the time. Messages can go unread.

I have used GroupMe with some church groups and it is great for communicating with others about events, however once any mission trips were involved to other countries we no longer could depend on the app due to lack or encryption.
Pros
GroupMe has a really good user interface and is good for communicating with large groups
Cons

In our organization GroupMe has met a need for communication that we did not have before. It is more simple than emailing a question and the response can be directly replied to. This saves time and provides a clearer way of communicating amongst our leaders.

Group me is a wonderful software or have. I have used it for many years to form groups that I continuously meet with weekly. The software enabled me to still be in touch with group members daily and to also be notified whenever I have received a group message. Great software to use!
Pros
I like the ability to meet with groups effectively and still be able to have conversations with them continuously. I also like that I was able to have all my different groups together in one place for me to access without having to do that on my phone.
Cons
It was a bit difficult trying to join groups that have added me but once I was able to figure it out, it got better.

I do like that I can use the app or pull it up on the computer for whichever is easier for me. I use it both personally and with my students. Always easy to add or delete people from a chat I start.
Pros
This software allows me to get my students' phone numbers and communicate with all of them without them having my personal phone number. I can keep in touch with all of them without the hassles of differences in phone manufacturers. It also stores photos, so I can go back and get them later.
Cons
Sometimes the notifications turn off without me knowing it and I've missed a few messages that way. Doesn't allow for video chats, so I have to use another app for that.

Turn off notifications on your secondary platforms
Reviewed on 2022/07/21
Pros
Overall, it’s the whole package. Chats work well. Adding people or making new groups is a seamless process whether on wifi or data. Can handle photos and links well enough.
Cons
I wish notifications would clear across all devices associated with an account. There can be very very active group chats, and seeing notifications pile up on unopened devices even though you keep up with your main device is quite annoying.

Not very happy, it is a good product, but there are too many bugs and constantly have to reinstall when adding people. This has happened to many of us. Having to reinstall an app to be able tp connect with someone is not a good experience.
Pros
That you are allowed to communicate fast with a group.
Cons
That it is not user friendly very difficult to set up and create or edit groups. It is a real pain.

I am able to keep in touch with large groups of people, whether it be for church, friendship, business, or parties. Being able to throw get together and have polls easily planned through the app is also a must for me.
Pros
I love that anyone can use GroupMe, no matter where they live and what type of phone they have. It makes the process of messaging seamless, especially for messages with a lot of people in it. I also love that you can like messages, send out invites that people can interact with, and keep track of people in the group as well as set messages to do not disturb.
Cons

I used GroupMe for many years, however there was a general shift away from this application and towards Telegram for messaging between peers. I still have both and use both. I am constantly using these different software's for different settings.
Pros
GroupMe was Quickly established as the first publicly embraced mass group messaging application. It still holds that wide range of recognition and acknowledgement
Cons
While it was the first, there since have become many other Applications used by different groups in different settings. GroupMe now must compete with the PC interface of Telegram and the wifi calling functionality of WhatsApp.
