Great CMS and API Gold

Reviewed on 2023/06/24

Pros

Love how easy it is to build API endpoints and work with them. And the platform has been so flexible. Not only can I use it for a CMS backend, but it is a full backend database solution.

Cons

Hardest part of using Flotiq is that there is a learning curve, but vs the other choices out there it is not bad at all. Just that I am mostly learning this as I go along so it was not plug and play the first time, but by now it almost is.

Supportive onboarding from the Flotiq team. The choice of CMS has been crucial for my client. Flotiq allows for clean data, the entire business relies on structured clean data. I was actually surprised how easy it was to train the client on the CMS. We tried many other CMS (including Contentful) and Flotiq came as the best all-rounder.

Pros

It's a small, easy to pick and learn headless CMS. The integration with Gatsby is seamless. Once deployed, the speed of rendering pages is incredible. Using Flotiq and Gatsby allowed us to save maybe 30% of our dev time compare to traditional method (React, CI/CD, etc.). It's very very useful having the data in a structured form. It allows for extendibility and creating new features with ease.

Cons

The interface is a bit dated, but there is a new version of UI coming up this year (2023).

Reasons for Choosing Flotiq

Flotiq has much smaller and agile team. There has been features that we needed in Flotiq and they just went ahead and built for us as it was inline with their plan.

Easy to Use in Global solution

Reviewed on 2021/09/17

Pros

Flotiq allowed us to quickly set up integrations between different enterprise systems, particularly their integrations with Microsoft Azure API Management and Microsoft Power Platform were huge time savers for us. We were able to quickly deploy a global service that delivers hundreds of thousands of records via APIs both to internal and customer-facing systems.

Cons

The UX of the admin interface seems a little inconsistent in some places, but it's not a big problem for us. The team actually changed a couple of things based on our feedback, which was a really nice touch

Customer service has been great! The platform is intuitive and flexible.

Pros

I love the flexibility of Flotiq and that the team has been able to customise it to suit our specific needs. Being able to update one component which appears across so many different areas of our site makes my work more efficient and consistent.

Cons

There are a few features that would help; being able to publish a page in draft before setting to live; tagging media library/organising in folders; being able to save the pages table view to come back to how you last filtered it.

Alternatives Considered

WordPress and Squarespace

Reasons for Choosing Flotiq

We needed a more flexible and modern CMS that was easier for different users to create, edit and control content from without using html or rigid webpage templates.

Reasons for Switching to Flotiq

Much better value for money.

Switching from Wordpress to Flotiq was one of our best choices in a long time. Easy to use, fast and very intuitive interface makes this platform outstanding.
It significantly sped up our blog workflow and eliminated all burdens of WordPress .
Flotiq helped us to reduce time needed for updates as well as gave us a lot more flexibility for creation of new content types.
Their 3-step onboarding process immediately gave us the feeling we're in the right place with our needs.
Definitely would recommend everyone who need easy-to-use, reliable, safe and well-performing solution in wide Serverless CMS world.

Pros

- it's serverless
- a quick way to host and build a blog (it's literally 3 minutes as they advertise)
- API first approach
- pro customer support
- a large variety of predefined content models
- friendly interface with easy to use forms
- great choice of SDK's to share API
- support for most popular of publishing platforms
- scalability
- great performance
- high-security standards

Cons

We're still amazed by Flotiq capabilities, therefore, we can only point out nice-to-have stuff rather than Cones. These are:
- ability to switch to Dark More look
- visual (drag and drop) landing page or newsletter emails creator
- more detailed user documentation

Flotiq allows me to setup websites for my clients to take full control of through the Flotiq Dashboard. It is incredibly easy to get started and they have incredible support!

Pros

I love how easy it was to get started and if I got stuck I could always rely on a quick response on their Discord Server!

Cons

It would be nice if it had a way to connect to a site on my Netlify account and allow me to add a Deploy to Netlify button to the Flotiq Dashboard. This would allow my clients to deploy the site themselves when are they done making changes.

I am able to setup my business website within a day with Flotiq starter and integrate smoothly with Gatsby which resulted in a blazing fast website and very easy to update the content daily with rich media (text, image, video).

Pros

The product is easy to use and there are several starters that we can out out-of-the-box and get our website up un running within a day with good architecture and good performance.

Cons

The Rich Text Editor could be improved, for example it is difficult to edit the link of a youtube video in the content as there is no context menu for video type, one the video is insert in the content, the video player is displayed.

Very happy overall.

Very happy overall.

Pros

I love the way it creates an SDK for our models, and updates it when we change or add models. It's a fantastic feature. Could we live without? Of course, we could use it with REST API etc, but having a next.js package built for us is wonderful.

Cons

REALLY REALLY need to introduce projects. At the moment, everything is in one project so if you want to use it for more than one thing, everything is combined. They are promising it but ... please hurry up! It'll be a game-changer.

Generally, I create micro-frontend applications based on Flotiq as a content manager. It's great how much we can achieve using "This Guy".

Pros

In the case of Flotiq, I like the API. It's a very easy-to-use but super powerful tool.

Cons

I only have one lack which I see, it's an option to group content types. This can help organize in a better way the content types. On the other hand, it's not something that causes problems, just improvement for a great product.

Enterprise headless CMS that solved our problems

I'm really happy with the system and the support we get from the team behind Flotiq. They were extremely helpful through the entire process of procurement, deployment and support. They also helped with training our internal developers and they are very open about any improvements that we suggest. In the end - I think the software is great value for money.

Pros

Thanks to the Flotiq CMS we were able to roll out a global solution that helps us reuse great amounts of already existing content. The integration was really simple because Flotiq connects well with many standards-compliant systems. It's on-premise deployment model and SSO integrations allows us to host it in compliance with company policies. One of its best features, that we use heavily, is its search feature, which also supports queries based on geographical data. Our internal development teams were able to quickly integrate our applications and we can easily share the APIs with other teams because of the OpenAPI compatibility that the system provides.

Cons

In our particular use case I would appreciate if we could somehow organize the content types into folders or groups, it gets a bit difficult to navigate the menu if the list of content types gets long.

Most things are clear to me. If i get stuck, Flotiq support team comes with help really fast. Project setup is really fast and errorless. It helps me making the "first move", which we all know from experience, it's the hardest part of every project. Rich set of features, that allows you to create something fantastic.

Pros

Easy to use. Clear onboarding process. Availability of SDK generator makes development process really faster and saves a lot of time. Good user support. Shop, Blog, Recipes starter projects available on their GitHub. Gatsby support to set up these really quickly. Integration with Zapier to automate your work and build complex flows really easily. Docs are really helpful when you get stuck at any point.

Cons

Lack of dark mode is really bothersome, when working in the evening.
SDK generator provides support only for seven programming languages or environments. Increased amount of these would be nice.
