I am so frustrated with Hightail. Their desktop app for the mac is synching the folders on my account but not bringing the files in that belong in the folders.

the only way for me to access files that my clients have shared with me is to recreate the folder hierarchy on my desktop and manually download each file.

Response from OpenText

Hi Robin,

So sorry to hear of your frustrations. Our desktop sync app is designed to Sync everything that you have located in your Hightail cloud account including all files and folders. My guess from your description is that you had a lot of files and folders that needed to sync and that first sync can take some time. We will first create the folders within the app and then start to download all of the files one by one. If you have many Gigabytes of data this process can take some time. This is just a guess and without knowing all of the details on what was happening with the app at that time it’s hard to diagnose. However, we do have a great support team that is here to help you out and make sure you get everything up and running. You can email them anytime at [email protected].

Customer service awful! Many user features no longer in use. Constantly in decline.

Reviewed on 2019/01/17

Pros

The ability to easily and quickly send files.

Cons

-Customer service and tech help is AWFUL!

-Website is black with dark lettering and almost impossible to see.

-Ability to stream in addition to download is intermittent. Usually it is download only for the files sent.

-Ability to write a message in the message box that appears in the email sent without clicking on the link has disappeared. I have been trying to find out why and have this fixed for 2 months now,

-Ability to see who has downloaded specifically has disappeared unless one has a hightail account of their own that they are logged in to. Originally if you had the pro service an email would be received by the sender for every person downloading with their email listed so the sender knew who downloaded.

-Max allowable 200 a day is often rolled over to the next day not reset at midnight of the next day.

I finally had a phone conversation with a human after almost 8 weeks with the same issue I've bene reporting and that human promised to get back with me by the end of his shift at 4 pm PT and it is now 25 hours later and he still has not gotten back to me.

Very good experience. My first time using this was when a collaborator needed to send me files that were too large, and I found that process very simple, so I started using it from time to time when I need to send a one-off file to someone that is too large to email.

Pros

I love that it is extremely easy for everyone involved to use. Whether you are sending or receiving files, it's a very simple process which is so important when I use this service with clients.

Cons

I think it's a bit expensive to use for larger files. I would like to see a less expensive plan than PRO at $12 that will give you a bit more options than the FREE version. As it is, with FREE I cannot set an expiration date or password, but do not use the service enough to warrant paying the PRO monthly price.

Pros

Ease of a drag and drop to upload files.
Remembering email address
Retaining data so if I need to forward on a file to another person, I don't need to re-upload.
We don't think about using Hightail in our day to day, we just default to it.

Cons

Easily I can send and track files being sent to my clients. I can adjust the time the file is available and get a notification. As to when the files have been downloaded. To me that’s critical.

Cons

I don’t use the project sharing but I should as it adds value.

I have used YouSendit/Hightail for years. Yearly payment is automatic. I use it and forget it. No hassles and it works every time. And more professional look for my company than the 'dropbox' for the masses.

Pros

There are no hassles with ftp sites or slow and vulnerable dropbox sites.
Gives my company a professional look.

Cons

The 'send file by Hightail' option no longer comes up in the pop-up menu when I right click a file in windows explorer. Missing Sendit that way. Now with the new Hightail interface I have to click on the program icon first to launch the program, login with password and then insert file.

I think I said this above having all my work in one place is huge for me. I can be tracking 2,3,4,...7 jobs at a time so I need a solution that helps me to keep it all straight and streamline the process. I get this with Hightail. Add in the fact that I can customize each space and there is the opportunity for collaboration right there in the space that's a time saver that I can't say enough about. When approvals need to happen asap this allows me to get the content there as quickly as possible and approved so we can move ahead. Hightail is one of those business tools I can't live without.

Pros

I love the ease of use for me. I'm a freelance Creative Director so it lets me customize content for my different clients per space while keeping in all in one accessible location for me. This helps me to streamline my process so it allows me to jump from job to job effortlessly. Also this allows me to share large files for immediate response and has the capabilities for there to be dialogue right there on the site again keeping all the content bundled in one easily accessible place.

Cons

I have had issues with clients not understanding what they are supposed to do with the invite or link. Also I've heard they are asked to download the software if this is their first visit and from one person I was told he ended up with a reoccurring charge after viewing the link. As I'm not personally encountering these issues but I've also been using Hightail for years I'm concerned about this client side of the equation. I'm mostly hearing this from non-tech savvy clients but they are clients that need to be managed is there a way to make this even simpler for them?

I have no real experience to report. Clunky software where there are other better tools to achieve the same outcome.

Pros

When it was YouSendIt, it all seemed easier. I don't even know why. But then, it turned into Hightail, which made no sense to my small ad agency that used it. All we needed was the ability to file share easily, cheaply and quickly. Instead, like every appliance and software, you added feature sets that I suspect most companies never used or needed. With that, came complexity and cost. Think Snip Tool -- so simple, so easy top use, so fast. Now, when a client sends a Hightail, Google Doc, etc., I decline the file. Just send me a Zip, Word or PDF file.

Cons

Lousy branding, complicated to use, user unfriendly, too secure and a general pain in the neck.

I am teaching classes to students all around the world with Hightail, without ever leaving my desk. No TSA. No hotels. No airport delays. Just high efficiency and productivity.

Pros

When I need to be able to deliver a large file, whether graphic or media, HighTail delivers. Fast. Efficient. Handled. Period.

Cons

When I need to deliver a file to multiple clients, I cannot create a group. I must type in every last email every single time. I have better things to do with my time. There used to be a group option, just like there used to be folder options. I have called. I have written. I have been told "sorry, we can't do that" and "sorry, we don't offer that."

Those are not the answers I want.

As my clientele grows, Hightail is holding me back.

These are simple requests. Either Hightail will prioritize them, or I will be forced to find someone who will.

Hope you're listening this time…

The truth about HIGHTAIL Customer Service

HIGHTAIL customer service is poor. I have on several occasions e mailed or even tried to leave a fone message and never receive a response to my questions. Questions like, just the other day the software flat refused to send. After several tries, I ended up compressing the audio file and including it in an e mail. Now the client has a compressed version of my audio, when my intention was a fatter .wav file. It would have been nice if HIGHTAIL would have had some kind of trouble notice on their site so I could have anticipated a problem.

Pros

HIGHTAIL gets my audio files to my clients anywhere in the world. But it can be cranky.

Cons

Sometimes client e mail addresses automatically populate in the "to" box. But sometimes they don't. It's when they don't that I have to go back to my e mail program and find the address, copy it and paste it in to my HIGHTAIL send. Also, if I am to quick with attaching a file to upload, I get this "calculate" message which never goes away. I end up going back and starting all over, leaving enough time between the time I attach the file and the time I actually hit send. Frustrating.

I like it because lately it has been a very stable platform to use in sending audio files to my colleagues. I also like that it that it shows a record of files having been sent and confirmation of receipt of files.

Cons

I dislike the black background of the website, it is not easy to see, especially on my monitor. It is also a bit muddled. It is difficult to do a search on files having been sent without scrolling down the page. They also used to send out alerts if they had a problem but this has now stopped.

It also is incredibly easy for my staff to use, which is always a plus.

One of the leading industry standard file transferring services so most folks are familiar with using it.

Cons

I could be in the minority here but I long for the early days of HighTail / YouSendIt. Some companies are simply not content to do one thing and do it well and that unfortunately has happened to HighTail over time. Clunky interface, features that have very little use to try to bulk up the product. There was an elegant simplicity to using the site years ago and now it has become a bit of a slog. I prefer WeTransfer.

The overall experience has been great. Like I said, it has meant that we can do more work, do it more quickly. For fear of you raising your prices, I have to say that it's a real bargain.

Pros

Basically, it's functionality. I advise a college radio station. With my Hightail account, I'm able to transfer files from a computer in one studio to a computer in another without the computers being networked. That makes things so much more efficient.

That, plus just being able to send audio and video files quickly anywhere is just great. The lack of limits on size and frequency of use is also terrific.

Cons

There have been changes as you've gone from YouSendIt to Hightail and that meant having to figure out what I used to do so easily. With time, I've figured everything out, but it was confusing at first.
