I am very pleased with the ease of entering data into the system. It saves me the cost of having a bookkeeper. I am able to categorize expenses myself and take full advantage of knowing what i was buying for business and for personal life. I know it is saving my a lot on my taxes, as I have proof of my deductions versus just guessing. It used to take me days to prepare my docs for my CPA not it is in a matter of hours I have all the numbers she will need.
Pros
The best feature I like is the way you can split items on a receipt into their own categories. For example, I go to Walgreens and buy cosmetics, copy paper, thank you notes, and business head shot photo prints. I enter Walgreens for the Payee, then I assign / split where the expenses will go in my categories. Cosmetic - Personal Care, Copy Paper, thank you notes - Business: Office Supplies, Photo prints - Business: Photography. I make my tax reporting a breeze for my Schedule C line items. I also love generating reports on income and expenses. Great for planning or estimating funds for seasonal work loads.
Cons
It actually has more features than I want to use. For example - the investment section, I tried to use it - but to enter buy - sell information and dividends and details was way too time consuming for me. I just as soon get my reports from my brokerage firm.

It worked, but managing the various categories was tedious. Seems like the Business Intelligence algorithms would be better and generate more intuitive category names.
Pros
Quicken as reasonably priced and linked fairly easily to my bank account and credit card account.
Cons
I did not like how the naming of charges in my bank account and cards did not line up very cleanly with the Quicken import data. It seemed like I was always scrubbing the data.

I use Quicken for both personal and business purposes and find that it has a broad use of categories and accounts to handle both. I have been using Quicken since its inception 40+ years ago and find it useful on a daily basis as well as monthly and tax related reports.
Pros
Quicken is a versatile personal finance application that covers something as simple as checking and savings account record keeping to more complex accounts such as credit card, investment and mortgage accounts. It can generate reports and graphs to provide a complete picture of one's personal finances.
Cons
To the best of my knowledge Quicken is only available on a subscription basis. In the past one could purchase upgrades as they were released or wait a year to purchase when more features were available.

The Gold Standard for Personal Financial management

I've been using Quicken since the late 1980's. It has always been the gold standard for personal financial software, and I don't believe it has any real competition. Quicken integrates well with major financial institutions, and when I combine it with TurboTax, it makes filing my taxes easy and reliable. The product is constantly being upgraded and improved. I can't imagine keeping up with my household finances, retirement savings, and tax records without it.
Pros
My favorite feature is the ability to connect and download transactions from banks, brokerages, and credit cards. These updates make it so easy to keep up with my personal finances.
Cons
The program is so robust that it can be a little complicated sometimes. But the truth is, that is a strength that is worth the time to learn to use.

No Download Window to Match Transactions
Reviewed on 2024/09/27

Over time and especially recently I have literally spent many days trying to get Quicken to work for me without success as measured by having registers balance with my Bank and other credit card companies. Without a manual way to select, delete and match downloading transactions with those already entered into my desktop computer register, I can't routinely keep my account balanced. For me, it is a fatal flaw that caused me to stop the automatic renewal after a 2nd year.
Pros
The hope that I could transfer my decades of data from "Quicken for the Mac 2007" to Quicken Classic Premier, for which I still have a subscription until Jul 2025.
Cons
Unlike Quicken for the Mac 2007, there is no pop-up window to show presently downloaded transactions before they are entered into the register. There is no practical way that I can match scheduled or other transactions already entered into my register with downloaded ones. Duplicate transactions are the result, and we are expected to regularly review our registers to combine duplicate transactions. That is time consuming and impractical.

I have been using Quicken since the DOS days. I never had any problems until the new owners took over. The program has been very glitchy ever since. Since this is the only program out there that is not overkill for my small church, I am forced to use it.
Pros
The financial reports I can generate is very flexible.
Cons
The program is becoming very expensive to use. There are glitches with some of the updates which messes up the check register. Many problems with connecting with my Wells Fargo accounts.

Straightforward and Functional, but Feels Outdated
Reviewed on 2024/11/08
Pros
I use Quicken for bookkeeping. One of the biggest advantages is how easy it is to copy and paste previous entries—it saves a lot of time on entering similar repetitive expenses. I also appreciate the ability to set up recurring monthly payments, bills, and expenses, which simplifies my workflow significantly. There’s also a good amount of customization options.
Cons
the software does feel a bit dated. The version we’re using looks and operates like something from the early 2000s, which can make it feel clunky compared to newer software. Despite this, I like QuickBooks overall—it’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done in a straightforward way.

Since late 2022 it has been horrible.
Pros
I have always liked how easy it was to learn and use Quicken. Getting started is easy.
Cons
In the last year Quicken changed their product so it only works on one computer. I have used Quicken for over a decade with OneDrive as the main storage for the database and more recently my own personal server. This made using Quicken essential for travel between my office, my home and on my laptop during travel outside the country or on family vacation.Quicken no longer allows this type of functionality and only allows you to store the main database on a local 'C' drive. Yes, you can copy and paste the database onto another computer (if you remember to do so before leaving), but then you need to re-sign into all your financial institutions. Unfortunately, the product is no longer business friendly and has rolled back to twentieth century technology when people only had one computer to use.Why programmers made this horrible decision is beyond me since almost everything has moved to cloud based programming or allows you to store and use a database from an online storage platform.

Pros
Able to keep tax records weekly for my small business.
Cons
Quicken arbitrarily changed the rules after purchasing this software. I have used this software for 8 years and purchased the program in 2016. After purchasing a new computer this week, and being unable to transfer my program to it, I was told I had to now pay for a yearly subscription of $60/year. Initially, I was given the option of purchase vs subscription and chose purchase. I now am told I have to pay for subscription yearly. If I had known this at the intial purchase time, I would have chosen another software or set up my own on excell. This is poor business practice by this company and I would never recommend them to anyone. I was never notified of any changes with my initial purchase. This would be considered malpractice by most other businesses. They should honor past agreements.

We use this software for the accounting of my wife's small business and financial reporting needs for select government programs. This is the best accounting software for a small business owner/sole proprietor in the market today. We have been using this program for nearly ten years.
Pros
I like the updated tax tables and current regulatory database for up-to-date tax prep tax schedules and deductions. It is easy to input transactions, categorize them, and get a running balance with ease.
Cons
My least favorite thing about this software is that it now requires a subscription instead of buying the program for a set price.
