Very easy to setup and start back ups to the cloud

We know our files and directories that we don't want to lose are safely backed up and retrievable at any time on any device if needed. It is especially helpful to have this cloud based with all the ransom ware out there.

Pros

It is very easy to navigate and setup only specific directories, files and folders on any device you want to have backed up to the cloud safely and without any further user action.

Cons

You have to install on every device you want to backup and it takes quite awhile on the initial software install since it scans everything you currently have backing up on all other devices before the installation is complete.

SpiderOak: A Reliable Solid Secure Backup Service

Another thing with this software that makes it so valuable is to simply set it up one time, it it just keeps working. It's reliable. There has been the odd time where I've needed to access the backup for one file, as well as a complete restore. It's never let me down. Will the initial price seemed a bit high to me, I quickly realized that the ability to add multiple computers made it very worthwhile. In two words: Reliable, solid. I'd recommend SpiderOak.

Pros

The excellent privacy features help make this a premier backup service for businesses. Also that my account allows an unlimited number of computers also provides the benefit of ensuring all data is backed up, everywhere. I can even go back to an earlier version of a specific file, in case there's an issue with a recent file version. Another particular "win" with this software, is that I'm able to adjust folder sync options, to better match my business needs. The application works well, is well designed, and in my opinion, very intuitive.

Cons

Some things I'd like to see added, is bringing back the mobile app - I appreciate most might not get as much use out of it, but would be nice to see. Regardless this software backups up all files, with privacy, and does it well!

For a couple of years it was a satisfying cloud backup solution. And the support was always very friendly and helpful. But when I ran into difficult problems with the integrity of my backups when I added a new device, it was just too time-consuming.

Pros

The value for money aspect was the best for SpiderOak One a couple of years ago: I was able to secure a promo offer for unlimited cloud spacefor just 149 USD/yr. Unbeatable back then.

And of course the zero knowledge technology ...

Cons

The UI is outdated and the whole managing of the backup is extremely cumbersome.

Dropbox Business

Reasons for Switching to SpiderOak

Not secure enough, I wanted zero knowledge technology.

In my organization, SpiderOak has helped us safely arrange our documents based on categories and it makes work easier for we the employees.

Pros

The fact it stores my data safely and accurately is the most attractive quality I can give to SpiderOak.

Cons

I feel a number should be dropped to be able to reach out to due to some glitches that may occur.
I have waited for over 15 days to get a reply.

DRP benefits with a headache

DRP benefits with a headache

Pros

The price point and zero knowledge promise were the selling points to us (which I think has been renamed or removed since we deployed 2 years ago).

Cons

As part of our DRP Groups was supposed to allow us to recovered users files quickly and effortless. Yet when we've had to enact a backup due to hardware failure on users machines - Groups often got stuck in the syndication process and endlessly looped itself. SpiderOak at the time has/had no telephone support or livechat resorting to emails which often took over 24hours to reply to. Costing us in productivity and work stoppages. When it has worked, it's taken a painfully long time. Deployment isn't even standardized as they've changed the software version without rolling out notices to current users or admins. Therefore half the org is on one version and some are on another with no sort of update feature built into the software.

Great backup software for users who want to secure what they have on their computer and don't know what to backup. The software takes control and does the rest to ensure your computer is completely backed up against ransomware.

Pros

The setup is simple and within a matter of minutes your backing up your email and data files. Great way to stay secure against ransomware.

Cons

Software backs up your files and data but removes the option to pick and choose what items you want to backup. And if you choose the minimum plan, it's only a matter of time before it backs up useless items that you don't need backup. Good for users who are not technical or don't know what to backup.

Secure and reliable cloud storage

Reviewed on 2018/04/24

Pros

SpiderOak offers end-to-end encrypted cloud storage, with easy to use client. It advocates secure-by-default principle, which puts the most of the security burden on the default system setup rather than user dependent setup. It's been recommended

Cons

Consumes space very quickly due to versioning. Pricing (beyond free trial) isn't the most competitive among it's rivals

Zero-knowledge privacy

Reviewed on 2020/01/03

Pros

When you create your account and install the desktop application, you move the files to your local folder. This way, files are encrypted before they are uploaded to SpiderOak servers. This means that your data is only accessible to you because the encryption key is unique to your local computer.

Cons

Offers less inadequate integration than competitors
