LabCollector LIMS

About LabCollector LIMS
LabCollector is a lab information management software and electronic lab notebook (ELN) built around independent modules that interact with each other, managing a variety of day-to-day laboratory information. The software is used within small to larger labs, academics, pharma groups, and research and development (R&D). Using LabCollector, scientists can work efficiently by quickly accessing and modifying data which is made available to the entire lab community via the cloud.
LabCollector’s management modules enable users to perform information and stock management on a modular basis. The storage system enables stocks localization that is managed using box cell grids and can be defined by point and click. LabCollector’s customization features perfectly adapt to any data scheme.
Scientists can navigate lab storage places using a hierarchical browser tree, and all lab staff actions within the database are recorded onto history logs including audit trails and data versioning. A backup method is also provided for simple data storage on external and redundant media.
All information that is stored in LabCollector LIMS is identified by a barcode. Scientists can create linear 1D and datamatrix 2D barcode labels for quick sample data retrieval and can be printed on stickers to identify tubes or documents.
The solution provides a collaborative interface and is capable of extensive customization without any coding skills. LabCollector can be accessed from any computer as well as wirelessly from PDA devices.

Much better than spreadsheets. Very organized and highly recommended.
Pros
As a researcher, Labcollector has helped our laboratory in organizing data sets and files that need to be stored and used later. Inventory management is also a plus. The efficiency of the software is also worth noting in terms of its immense functionality.
Cons
None at the moment. We have been using it for almost 6 months now, and so far it has been great.

Once the layout design and migration concerns were addressed, I find the system very intuitive, easy to use, and the team is wonderful to work with. I hope we will be very happy with them for years to come!
Pros
The system is very customizable to allow labs to build it out however best suits their needs. The layout of case and sample pages is clean, easy to read and easy to find information. The team at LabCollector was amazingly helpful in making this happen.
Cons
Customizing required a great deal of assistance from the LabCollector team to allow migration from a pre-existing database. There also seems to be a lot of add-ons that aren't included in packages so we had to upgrade several times before we even got started. As a small lab with limited budget, that was stressful.
Alternatives Considered
LabVantageReasons for Choosing LabCollector LIMS
We were not happy with the data management and user-friendliness aspects of the system. Additionally we had a desktop based system and were looking for affordable SAAS alternatives.Reasons for Switching to LabCollector LIMS
All other options we considered came with a hefty price tag and multiple options that we do not use or need. They weren't customizable for small biobank purposes.Response from AgileBio

Not intuitive & cumbersome

I am leaving it behind and going to try other options.
Pros
Nothing, really. I was hoping that the electronic version would make my work easier, but it made it harder.
Cons
The program does not mimic a paper version of the lab book, many features are not useful, and trying to use it as a true lab book is cumbersome. Creating protocols for an easy insertion was not possible, it required approval from others, and insertion was cumbersome. The different layers of the lab book are useless and just add confusion. Trying to fit my recording needs to the lab book was the reverse of what I needed.
Response from AgileBio
We're sorry that you did not find what you expected. LabCollector is composed of many tools and some are plugins to add. For example the ELN component needs to be downloaded and added to the inventory framework. Furthermore we keep improving the software and take reviews in consideration. Hope you can keep an eye on us and also our team is always available to help discovering the features. Call us for a walk through next time!

Pretty good! Its very friendly user and has a lot of options.
Pros
I like that there is button to duplicate samples right away. Makes it easier to create new samples of the same subject.
Cons
I don't like that is not so easy to find empty spaces available in my inventory.
Response from AgileBio
Thank you for your review! We're glad you're enjoying LabCollector’s features, like the sample duplication tool, and finding it user-friendly!
To help with finding empty inventory spaces, you can use the "Guesser" in the storage form or export a list of free positions via the Storage Browser. Let us know if you'd like guidance on these tools!

Its getting better. We are now working on bidirectional interfacing, so it will be interesting to see where we end up.
Pros
The application seems to be very agile overall. Many functions and additions to use.
Cons
The application is more research oriented rather than a streamlined hospital LIS
Response from AgileBio
Thank you for your feedback, Louis! We’re glad you find LabCollector agile and flexible. While we have strong roots in R&D, LabCollector is also fully equipped for LIS applications, and we're constantly improving. If you have any suggestions on how we can better meet your LIS needs, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
