About Groundplan

Groundplan software is a construction estimation software that helps companies in document storage and project management. The tool is used by various trades including electrical, plumbing, fire, HVAC, roofing, and landscaping works. The application enables estimators to collaborate in real-time with other workers while working on estimation plans. The software can be accessed on any internet-enabled device using web browsers.

Groundplan is used in electrical contracting to count LED downlights and measure cable runs to improve estimating processes. The application is also used in plumbing projects of hospitals, schools, office buildings, retail, and residential buildings to measure pipe fittings as well as provide a bill of quantities. Groundplan allows users to manage projects by entering important dates and deadlines in a calendar. The calendar automatically syncs with Outlook and Google calendars in real-time to provide a consolidated view of meetings, appointments, and timelines.

Groundplan offers project and takeoff templates that let users keep formulas and assign symbols for easy estimation on a regular basis. The tool also allows construction estimators to revise an existing plan and upload a new plan without switching between the screens. All project documents and plans can be downloaded and shared with end-clients.

Additional features offered by Groundplan include estimate worksheets, formula management, items counting, length measurement, and to-do lists. The application offers a full-feature free trial for fourteen days.

Pros

The Take-off abilities are efficient, templated and save time and energy! Initial set-up is easy and you are away!

Cons

I would love to see an auto count function developed in the future, I feel this is the only thing i want for.

Excellent! Game changer for estimating sprinkler and fire protection work. I even use it for quoting service work and deficiencies where there are no drawings - it is better than any spreadsheet I have used for adding costs, mark-ups, labor, etc.

Pros

Makes estimating of any kind faster and reduces the chance of errors in calculations. Phenomenal live chat for support with anything.

Cons

I don't have anything. I only have a couple suggestions such as being able to save the overlay as a new plan after using the compare feature and perhaps showing totals from each stage and grand total when exporting (could be possible and I just haven't figured it out yet).

For saving compared plans, a handy workaround for now is using a screenshot tool to capture an image. Just keep in mind that your screen resolution affects the image quality. Higher resolutions will give you a better result. That said, we can pass your suggestion to our dev team, and it’s something we can consider for future updates. Pros

Smart guide has been a great addition - and it's great being able to create new symbols as required and the support is FANTASTIC

Cons

I've found it hard to size symbols correctly but luckily the Groundplan team helped with that. BE SURE TO DO THE FREE ONLINE TRAINING!

Pros

What I like most is the ease of using the system.The way you can easily navigate around from plan to plan or stage yto stage, The ease in marking up plans for shop and construction drawings etc... Also, I think one of the best ([sensitive content hidden]) telephone supports on offer. Happy and freindly on the phone and the willingness to stay on the phone until your request task is completed.

Cons

The only thing I don't like and our company chooses not to use is the count assist feature, This is only because the PDF plans issued icoms are note all eactly the same. So the count assist can not correctly/accurate pick them all up.

We totally get your point about Count Assist. While it works best when plan symbols are consistent, we know that’s not always the case in the real world. Some of our users have had success refining their symbol selections or using manual counts alongside it for those trickier plans, but we also know there’s always room for improvement. Pros

Groundplan is very easy to use. The team, especially Caz is exceptionally helpful and they are great at helping you achieve a result if you can show them what you are trying to achieve. The integration with Simpro is exceptional once you understand how it works, this can be a little overwhelming if you are new to Simpro and Groundplan.

Cons

The icon sizing is not particularly easy to get right and takes a few clicks to change. This is only an issue when designing plans for presentation but does not affect take-offs.
