A must have for asset management for Mac Systems

We needed a way to manage laptops for local and remote employees as well as push updates and software such as antivirus and Office. We had between 100-200 Apple laptops to manage and it was hard to do one by one. And the new hire process was slow to setup laptops without this software. After a few weeks of learning how to use JAMF we could order a laptop from Apple through our company e-commerce store and have it shipped to office or a remote employee and it would be setup, joined to AD, software installed, etc. right out of the shrink wrap. Can’t image using anything else now, but does have a steep learning curve.
Pros
Best way to ensure all Macs are up to date, ready to go with business required software installed. Works straight out of the shrink wrap.
Cons
Very steep learning curve. Lots of short scripts to install different software. They do have a good CS team to help onboard you and check back in if you need help. But expect to spend the first week or two learning how to get it to do what you want. Don’t expect to learn how to deploy this without designating a lot time on learning it.

Feature rich MDM with excellent support

We're happy with Jamf Pro because we feel confident that we can manage our fleet of machines with more reliability and take advantage of additional features offered by this MDM. We are using Jamf Pro Cloud and the upgrades are automatic. We have cut support time and cost in half due to not having to constantly upgrade and maintain an on-prem solution.
Pros
Jamf Pro delivers software, configurations, and restrictions with accuracy and reliability.
Cons
There are some counter-intuitive processes that might seem redundant or additional steps. Jamf Pro has many features and many ways to configure delivery.
Reasons for Choosing Jamf Pro
We moved to Jamf Pro to take advantage of the reliability of the industry standard for Apple. The issues with our previous MDM kept adding up and we were troubleshooting MDM issues on a monthly basis. Our hope is that Jamf Pro proves reliable for years to come.Reasons for Switching to Jamf Pro
We chose Jamf Pro as our platform because of the balance of features and cost that outweighed the others. Jamf's reputation also had a lot to do with our decision.- Industry: Education Management

Overly complicated for our needs

We started using Jamf to maintain the 50 Macs at our school. However, it's so complex and time-consuming to work with that we've pretty much abandoned it. We were spending so much time creating and updating packages and policies that we've found it quicker to just send techs to the machines to make changes in most cases. If we had several hundred then it would be a different story but it's just not a great fit for us.
Pros
Jamf allows you to control your organization's Macs in a similar way to how Group Policy allows you to control PCs. As long as you're very proficient with scripting for Macs then it's a powerful tool. The user community, Jamf Nation, is also extremely helpful in getting things working.
Cons
It's overly complicated for organizations that don't have hundreds of Macs to maintain. Doing anything beyond the absolute basics requires a lot of research and trial and error.

Great MDM with lots of feature, but you have to hunt for a lot of it in JAMF Nation

Overall, I enjoy JAMF and am very familiar with it and taught myself how to manage the macOS environment because JAMF has many great features
Pros
Basic functionality works great and has many powerful features
Cons
Many things that JAMF can do can only be done due to fellow JAMF admins providing scripts they have created themselves within JAMF Nation (which is an open source free blog site that JAMF manages). It is great but it is also sometimes a bit frustrating to have to dig into how to do this and that and that it is not just built in somehow.

Jamf is a great tool. Works in the background, and improves peace of mind for businesses that have remote assets such as laptops.
Pros
Jamf fills a very specific and critical need: providing remote control, tech support and security features for distributed businesses who are macintosh-based.
Cons
It's a little difficult to implement, and requires an IT professional to correctly install and test connections between the admin console and each remote computer.

Since it's one of the only viable solutions for Macintosh, we did not seriously evaluate iCloud, as its business offerings felt very limited.Jamf Pro FAQs
