Synergy Overview

Synergy is a cloud-based project management and project accounting solution designed for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals. The software can be accessed from any web-enabled device, and includes tools for time tracking, document management, invoicing, reporting, collaboration, and more.

Synergy stores documents in centralized folders, links contacts to projects, and allows users to set tasks and timeframes and assign resources through a work breakdown structure. All collaborators, including consultants, contractors, freelancers, partners, and clients, can access project information and documents through project-specific web portals, and all document versions are automatically logged and saved to prevent any versions being overwritten. An unlimited number of contacts can be stored in Synergy, and users can view related projects, notes, and invoices, manage contact lists, and import or export contacts. Dashboards give users an overview of KPIs, due tasks, recent activity, alerts for work in progress, timesheets, and other critical issues, and more.

Synergy’s project accounting features allows users to manage project budgets, track and log time spent on projects, and generate project reports. Multiple fee types are supported, and users can mix different fee types on a single invoice, including fixed fees, capped rates, time and materials, and percentage of project value. Progress billing is also supported, allowing users to bill progress as percentage complete, time elapsed, or both. Built-in timers and timesheets enable tracking and allocation of labor and nonlabor hours and costs, to let users manage billable and non-billable time, and calculate profitability within fixed fees.

Pros

We use Synergy to maintain our email system for our company. The customer support is phenomenal when we need a new email address or to remove one. Very fast service. We also enjoy the fact that our email is delivered fast and outgoing mail is received timely.

Cons

The only con is if you are aware from your office and at another location and need to sign in to your email, you have to go in a different way on the computer to get your email.

Pros

Excellent tool for tracking time and invoicing. Payed for itself in first couple of years with amount of otherwise lost time that was able to be invoiced.

Cons

Resource management is a bit cumbersome and as a consequence we have not implemented this function. Some of the terminology used in the costing functions takes a while to get used to.

This is a very detail oriented Project Management software.

Pros

I really like the level of detail available on this software. It has WBS breakdown, customer portal, and a very nice dashboard. There is a banner across the top which contains very useful information.

Cons

This is a very comprehensive software the only thing that would be nice is a dedicated area to manage risks or at least and issue tracker.
