SentinelOne
About SentinelOne
DataSet is an autonomous endpoint protection platform that protects organizations against diverse modes of attacks at any stage in the threat lifecycle, delivering the defenses needed to prevent, detect, and undo both known and unknown threats. Key features include machine learning, real-time forensics, behavioral attack detection, and automated policy-base responses, along with complete visibility into all activity.
DataSet’s tools for endpoint security protection help protect against all threat vectors using pre-execution, on execution, and post-execution capabilities. Pre-execution features work by denying endpoint access to known and unknown malware, and blocking threats by combining dynamic whitelisting and blacklisting with advanced static prevention. On execution features detect and contain threats using a lightweight agent-based detection system, and stops their progress by disconnecting any infected devices from the network. The system monitors all activity and applies machine learning for the dynamic detection of attacks including more advanced attacks such as exploits, fileless, and sophisticated malware.
Post-execution features help immunize endpoints by quickly rolling-back modifications after stopping attacks, and provide users with a 360-degree view of endpoints and threats along with powers forensics and policy enforcement. SentinelOne is a scalable, cloud and on-premise tool that comes with a robust API, and currently integrates with 15 third party systems such as Splunk, Fortinet, Okta, BigFix, and Tanium.

Great Product - Sometimes too good
Reviewed on 2024/06/21
Pros
I like the detection response and the way it behaves. It doesn't just scan for malicious files, it looks for malicious behavior. It has protected clients/users from actual attacks.
Cons
Sometimes it does it's job too well, such as if you are just clearing out shadow copy data. But...things like that can be done in a malicious attack, so it's worth having to temporarily disable it from time to time. The updates fail sometimes and require a complete reinstall of SentinelOne and it can get a little difficult, sometimes requiring to use the cleaner tool and get into safe mode.

SentinelOne - good protection but can be flaky

Confidence in the product now (in May 2021) is nowhere near as high as it was a year ago. Recent upgrades have introduced issues for us - we have had to deal with a lot of them manually user-by-user. Current build seems a lot more stable but this was a lot of pain to go through to get to this point.
Pros
Agent install - deployed to a PC - reboot and it's working. Web console filtering allows identification of incidents and configuration in a fairly simple manner.
Cons
Some upgrades of the product have introduced major issues. eg One release broke some OS upgrades on certain models of laptop leaving them unable to boot. Another version introduced crippling speed issues with Adobe products. To their credit they do eventually fix these issues, but not quickly enough.

CylanceENDPOINTReasons for Choosing SentinelOne
Early adopter of S1. Cost and functionality - the daily .DAT updates with McAfee were cumbersome to keep track of and sometimes painful to resolve if they wouldn't deploy. Also it's a fairly archaic concept now to have to update daily whereas S1 has less updates (a lot more than promised) and console management is simply better than McAfee.Switched From

We've tested this solution a lot and we've assumed it is the best for us and for our customer. The agent that you install on servers or endpoints is lightweight and does not use so many resources that it slows down the system unlink other competitors. Moreover this solution doesn't produce so many false positive but all events ("incidents") are real events to investigate. In addition to this, the solution natively integrates with other products (not only for this brand) and offers an extensive API that you can use for integrating with custom applications (eg. Security Operation Center frameworks).
Pros
Lightweight agent. Low false-positive rate. API and integrations.
Cons
Not yet integrated mobile platform into the XDR platform.

Great product - it’s too good sometimes but not too annoying
Reviewed on 2023/11/30
Pros
It monitors behavior, it thinks some legitimate software and commands are malicious, but also easy to reverse and continue on. Lots of options for whitelisting. Not easy to be removed, so it’s not easy to get around.
Cons
Sometimes I wish I could do VSS maintenance without having to disable the agent, but viruses and malware can attack VSS so I’m fine with it. Have had some issues with duplicating agents in the management side and trouble with updates.
