Open-source software development and project management tool

About Phabricator

Phabricator is a free to download, open source suite of tools for supporting the software project development lifecycle. Designed to support single users and teams of collaborators, the platform of applications can be locally installed without cost while a cloud hosted supported package including additional support is available for a monthly fee. In summary, Phabricator comprises a browser-based dashboard that offers centralized accessibility to constituent apps for code review, repository hosting, change auditing, issue tracking, task management and more. With each application named individually but tightly integrated, Differential presents side-by-side code reviewing capabilities for monitoring changes, attaching inline anecdotes and comments, highlighting, plus the marking of resolutions as done. This can be combined with Arcanist, Phabricator's command-line tool (CLI) to streamline the pre-commit review workflow while "Herald" supports post-commit automated auditing with personal/global conditional business rules.

Diffusion then allows repositories such as Git, Mercurial and Subversion to be browsed, hosted locally or existing repositories connected from other locations. The Phriction wiki editor supports full Remarkup to compile and track documentation changes that can be rolled back historically. Customizable task management is then promised via Maniphest, enabling feature, issue and bug tracking with tools including custom fields for defining specific project tasks, search filters, plus drag and drop Kanban-style workboards for visualizing milestone progress. Remaining Phabricator applications then add collaborative coworker chat via Conpherence, along with the platform's own HTTP JSON-based Conduit API for interfacing with Phabricator in scripts.

Super useful software, that's really well built with the option to make it more serious or leave little developer quips in.

    Pros

Phabricator makes it really easy for you to move from setup to creating tasks and projects. It's secure, open source, multi-functional and honestly just amazing.

    Cons

Not all the features are available right away, so it does require a little configuration to ensure it works the way you want it to.

    Alternatives Considered

    Jira and Bugzilla

    Reasons for Choosing Phabricator

When I learned that Facebook uses Phabricator internally, I knew there must be a reason so I tried it out and never looked.

    Switched From

    Bugzilla

    Reasons for Switching to Phabricator

Staying with Bugzilla wasn't really an option, while fully functional it does have some notable short-comings, kan-ban boards being just one of them. JIRA is just too complex a product in my opinion, plus it can become frustratingly slow.

I'm happy with the solution, but I sometime feel frustrated not being able to address/find proper solutions to what seems to be simple/common situations for this kind of tool

    Pros

Phabricator is an easy to implement and free tool, that can be used as a task/bug manager/tracker. It's pretty versatile and offers various pre-installed tools/plugins, with a lot of possible parameters to play with in order to create Projects, related tasks and link this to your repository solution (we are using Git).
It offers the possibility to work with lists or board (kan-ban style), it has a free sprint plug-in that allows to Phabricator to be used as a scrum tool.
Being free and stand-alone, it allows integrators/developers to come up with their own scripts and/or plugins.

    Cons

It's a bit confusing at first, since the information can be presented in different style, at different places and, therefore, can be interpreted in different ways. The development is slow and a lot of features requested by paying customers as much as free users seem to take a long time before being addressed. It's understandable but could be a downer for potential users.
The community behind it is not as active as other solutions, so finding a solution to your problem could take time and effort.
