AnyLogic

About AnyLogic
AnyLogic is a simulation software that helps businesses in transportation, manufacturing, rail logistics, mining, supply chain, healthcare, and other industries test and explore what-if scenarios via 2D and 3D modeling. It provides built-in animation libraries pertaining to various industries, such as rail, pedestrian, road traffic, and material handling.
AnyLogic allows data analysts to create simulation models using various modeling methodologies and languages, including discrete events, agent-based, system dynamics, process flowcharts, statecharts, and action charts. It enables staff members to present visual models with graphical objects to visualize vehicles, employees, equipment, buildings, and other items according to business specifications. The built-in GIS maps let organizations search and locate cities, streets, roads, hospitals, shops and bus stops to generate simulation models.
AnyLogic comes with an API, which allows organizations to integrate the system with several third-party solutions. The platform also provides pre-designed simulations, such as monte carlo, sensitivity analysis, and parameter variation experiments.

We are using AnyLogic to model our cross docks and yard operations. I love using this software for this purpose. The support for modeling "pedestrian" like congestion/etc on our docks and yards is amazing. I know of no other simulation modeling environment that does this.
Pros
AnyLogic is an incredibly flexible platform for creating very sophisticated simulation models. I love it's integration with the Java programming language. Also, I like how they separate the visualization from the logic of the modeling.
Cons
To do all that AnyLogic does, it is an extremely complicated modeling tool. It takes a while to learn.

Switched to another simulationtool because of limits in AnyLogic

there are too many libraries. This is of course very nice but when using prorgamama the first time I panicked because there are too many possibilities. This can be improved for example to basis libraries and as the extras other libraries. Integrating 3D objects did not work
Pros
I liked that many models were available on cloud as an additional resource. Also with questions that team was ready for you immediately
Cons
However, I had to switch programs. Anylogic was not able to work with objects created in autocad in a .dae format. Everything jammed and my whole model crashed. I have found a better alternative simulation program that does this very smoothly

Using AnyLogic science version 5.5. Providing classes for students, and also using in research projects.
Pros
- flexibility (use of Java), provides a great opportunity to develop very complex models
- huge amount of features to conduct different types of experiments
- huge amount of samples + detailed tutorials
- ability to mix in one model different simulation approaches
Cons
- very slow, probably because of the user interface
- not very user-friendly in terms of writing the code, autocompletion etc
- 2D/3D object library could be more wider, also would be great to have a tool to create own 3D objects
