About Milanote

Milanote is a cloud-based collaboration software designed to help creative teams manage storyboarding, creative writing and briefs, mind-mapping, note-taking, and brainstorming. It lets users create private boards and share projects with team members to collect feedback and ensure service quality.

Key features of Milanote include task management, real-time editing, content management, file sharing, project management, brainstorming, status tracking, and ideation. Each project comprises crucial information, such as plans, project assets, background data, conversations, and briefs, which can be shared across teams to collaborate via comments.

Milanote lets design teams organize various types of content in the visual boards, including PDFs, color swatches, design files, animated GIFs, videos, and more. It also offers templates that can be customized according to individual workflows.

Milanote’s drag-and-drop interface enables creative professionals to arrange files across moodboards, add notes to projects, and display every part of a creative project using a side-by-side view. Milanote Web Clipper can be installed on Google Chrome, which allows teams to instantly save links, images, and videos to existing boards from the web.

I love, love, love this app! I use it for so many things in my business and personal life. The customer service is great also.

Pros

Milanote is awesome! I love how easy it is to use and the flexibility. Being able to freely move the variety of "cards" around any way you want makes it useful for so many different things. For a creative like me who loves to be organized, it's super helpful.

Cons

The phone app is useful and great for some things, but it's not as easy to view your boards on it because the order they show up in is kind of random.

Alternatives Considered

Trello

Reasons for Switching to Milanote

Milanote is much more versatile which allows me to use if for more things.

I have a love/hate relationship with MIlanote!!!

Milanote needs rethink it's membership program. There needs to be something that attracts customers back on a weekly basis. And in the current freemium service, there is a reason to go back and use Milanote once your 100 boards are used up. I believe Milanote should give users 5-10 free boards every month. I believe this will get people to use the program more often, more comfortable using the program, and collaborate with their people, eventually purchasing like I did.

Pros

Milanote is fun and easy to use. I really like this tool a lot. Whenever I need to storyboard an idea, I go to Milanote.

Cons

The free boards and subscriptions don't make any sense. Milanote gives 100 free boards. That's wonderful!!! However, once you use up the 100 boards, your only option is to purchase a monthly subscription regardless if you use one new board or 1000 new boards.

I only use Milanote in seasons, meaning I use it for 20 days each quarter. I purchased a yearly subscription and after 6 months I realized I only used it for about 40 days. So purchasing a yearly subscription for 80 days of use is a waste of money. I did purchase it one month at a time, but that was annoying.

Milanote Review

Pros

It’s for creative brainstorming or project planning, it’s a great tool to keep everything in one place. Plus, the drag-and-drop feature makes it super intuitive

Cons

The free version has limited storage, which can be a bit restrictive if you’re working on multiple projects at once

Milanote Just Works!

Milanote is a great software that allows for quick and easy iteration of ideas using their built-in flexible tools to mindmap, organize, and sketch out almost any idea you could have!

Pros

Milanote is a very versatile solution to ideation and whiteboarding that does a great job. It is perfect for online moodboards, storyboarding, documentation, and mindmaping.

Cons

I wish rather than having a card limit for all boards there was a board limit and a card limit per board. As is, the software doesn't have enough PAID features to make the paid version worth it, and the free version is lacking enough to use it as anything other than an idea board. I still prefer Jira or Trello for project management, and PureRef for my moodboards (even though that doesn't allow for collaboration and isn't online).

Alternatives Considered

Trello, Google Drive and Adobe Photoshop

Reasons for Choosing Milanote

I made the switch only for projects that require collaboration of the moodboard. Otherwise I typically share files on Google Drive, do project management on Trello, sketch ideas out in Photoshop, and use PureRef for my own personal reference boards. Milanote is a great solution for ideation and collaboration, but those other softwares are individually better at their given tasks. Milanote SHOULD add more tools for better project and task management, making it more clear and less of a secondary feature, and should also overhaul its file sharing side of things as I described previously in this review. Another feature that would definitely put Milanote on the map and blow the competition out of the water would be integration with set folders on a person's PC and utilize version control when a file is changed. This would likely require a Milanote APP download onto a person's computer, but this added tool would be a game changer for sure!

Reasons for Switching to Milanote
