Chameleon

About Chameleon
Chameleon is a digital adoption platform for building and publishing customizable product tours and surveys to aid with client website onboarding. Installation is carried out with low code requirements, or through integration with JS Snippet, a Google Tag Chrome extension, or Segment.
The platform provides a controllable user experience (UX) over the already existing interface that allows users to see what they are building in real time. The editor tool provides advanced styling options and custom cascading style sheets (CSS). Chameleon enables users to watch the creation of a tour or survey in real time, including a full preview and test option, before final publication. Editing and updating can be carried out at any point after publication.
Chameleon can measure and track the performance of a tour or survey through A/B testing, multi-variant testing and impact reporting. Analytics reports will identify what engages and converts users into leads through net promoter score (NPC) and customer satisfaction (CSAT) ratings, and sends the data to an already existing user stack through integrations with platforms such as Intercom, Hubspot, and Mixpanel. Tooltips can also be designed and managed within the Chameleon platform.

We use Chameleon to set up in-app tours for new product releases on our software
Reviewed on 2017/12/20
Pros
I like all the different functionalities and how you can link to videos and links. The customizations of the messages are great as well.
Cons
It's kinda hard to use and a little frustrating when you need to be on the webpage the tour will be on. Also, I wish there was a way to hide the chameleon icon on the software.

We were using 10-year old software that was falling apart. It was a tough sell on the cost but this software will last a long time. Just be prepared to handle most challenges in-house.
Pros
It is fully customizable if you have the time; it has almost all of the features needed to be successful; the week of live onboarding helped sell staff on using the database
Cons
Customization requires an IT professional; it is very expensive; it's not as intuitive as some other shelter software; specialized reports require an IT professional; reaching their help desk is incredibly challenging

Beware! Predatory, sneaky pricing

It wasn't until after we tried to leave that they continue to try and beg us to stay and keep pointing to the blog where they explain their pricing.
Pros
It has a lot of cool features and was relatively easy to implement. It's a bit clunky to get started but otherwise easy to use.
Cons
Chameleon uses their code snippet to search out any user, that has ever been in your database and counts them in the monthly user count. We were charged for 5,000 users while still implementing in beta. Literally we had 2 people working on this and they charged us for 5,000. They simply point to a blog where they indicated that these users "might" login and so they have to plan for that. If you have a static user set then you won't have any problem. But if you plan to use this like we did, to guide new users to determine if the software is for them, why would you pay for these users in perpetuity when they will never login again.

I'd hoped to integrate some animated gifs into some emails using the platform, but couldn't spend the amount of time needed to figure it out with the substantial learning curve. Big companies with dedicated graphic designers? YOU'LL LOVE THIS. Small business? Keep looking.
Pros
If you have a 90 minute block of time to sit down and really dig in using all the tools, you will end up with a very pro looking email or newsletter. As good as any you'll see in any inbox.
Cons
Who has 90 mins. for this, espsecially in light of the complex user interface? They provide templates, but navigating around the various elements is not intuitive at all. They could take a lesson from Canva and strip back the toolset so that users in their price range ($0-20/month i.e. solopreneurs and very small biz) could actually get something done. The interface looks like Adobe Photoshop! Too much.
