About VERSO

VERSO is a cloud-based and on-premise library management solution designed to help public libraries of all sizes search, manage and share resources. Key features include search history tracking, patron management, request generation, copy cataloging, offline access, and reporting.

The application helps staff members manage an online catalog of various reading materials such as books, recordings, or serials on a unified platform and handle the circulation, lending, and renewals associated with every resource. VERSO allows professionals to create custom websites using personalized logos, colors, and images, and perform page edits using the Widget Manager. Plus, it lets members generate filtered results and create multiple book lists using the drag-and-drop tool.

VERSO offers integration with various third-party solutions such as 3MCloud, iTeam, Syndetics, ChiliFresh, EnvisionWare, and OverDrive, enabling members to search and view resources easily on the platform. Patrons can use the self service portals to manage personal accounts and explore, maintain, and share resources with libraries.

I have worked with many ILS and software vendors over the last 20 years, including SirsiDynix, EOS International, SydneyPLUS, Inmagic, CuadraStar, Microsoft, Auto-Graphics and Cisco Systems. I find that the Auto-Graphics VERSO ILS is feature-rich and the best value for small to mid-size public libraries in the market today.

Overall, I think Verso is a solid choice if you can't afford to spend more on an ILS. But there will be quirks and bugs, so you will want to have one or two people on staff who are comfortable with technology and poking around to figure out what is going on and how to make your way around issues.

Pros

Verso, typically, has enough functions for us to get by based on the budget we have (as a small rural library) for an ILS. Many of our peer libraries use Verso also and it is one of the better options at its price point. We can do all of the basic processes we need to at the circulation desk and keeping our catalog up to date and searchable is relatively easy. Their support team is generally pretty good at communications and answering any questions.

Cons

Verso has minor quirks that we eventually figure out workarounds for but, really, we shouldn't need to do that. And every time there is a version upgrade there are far too many bugs to even deal with for the first week or two which can make the entire process problematic when it comes to customer service and efficiency.
