Epsagon is a cloud-based system administration platform that helps enterprises troubleshoot and monitor microservices. It enables users to trace previous operations, payload, or performance metrics with resource details including event date, duration, IP address, hostname, and error type.
Epsagon allows businesses to perform query operations on applications using the search functionality and track the frequency of issues during a particular time period through histograms. Managers can monitor system applications to identify production issues related to timeouts and errors, and receive automated alerts via various channels such as Slack, Webhook, Microsoft Teams, and email. With its architecture map, professionals can view the entire production architecture, including microservices, Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), cloud services, and external application programming interfaces (APIs).
Epsagon offers integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), which enables enterprises to monitor container workloads and lambda functions through multiple accounts, regions, or programming languages. Businesses can perform regular audits and encrypt critical data in compliance with international security mandates such as HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, ISO2700, and GDPR certifications.

It's been great to grow with Epsagon. I was one of the first using it on JavaScript Lambdas, and the absolutely first using async/await which meant I got to catch some of the bugs. Since then the product has matured significantly and it is very pleasing to use. Reliability and performance have been strong for some time now.
Pros
- Easy to use, just instrument your functions or add the Epsagon Lambda layer
- Service map is interesting
- Automatically captures network connections, database connections
- Automatically captures a function's input and output
- Makes it very easy to debug issues
- Easier and more featureful than X-Ray
Cons
- Alerting functionality hasn't caught up to CloudWatch yet
- Requires instrumentation, (probably impossible to avoid, but still...)
- Can be slow to analyze new traces
- Cross-invocation metrics aren't very useful yet

Great troubleshooting experience

Pros
Time to remediate a production error have become significantly faster than before. The tracing view is easy to understand and gives the right context when try to solve a bug.
Cons
I would love to see more services monitored at the same way. Kinesis, AWS Elasticsearch and ECS Fargate tasks would be a great addition.

Pros
It integrates more or less automatically and gives you all the important metrics right off the bat.
Cons
Some parts of the Muting alerts were not flexible enough. The Issue tracking feature was not useful to us.
