Thundra Overview

What is Thundra?

Thundra is a cloud-based end-to-end application management tool designed to improve visibility into the entire lifecycle of serverless applications. Thundra can help businesses with enhancing developer productivity and application performance with an integrated AWS environment for lambda performance monitoring that eases the debugging process of serverless applications. Application developers are able to manage end-to-end application transactions, detect issues with architecture-level visibility, create debugging sessions with an integrated IDE, resolve security and performance anomalies, and automate security operations for continual compliance.

With Thundra, users are able to a view high-level architectural overview of every distributed service connected to each FaaS, serverless, or container-based application using Trace maps. For application errors, Thundra provides an integrated IDE for application developers to initiate remote debugging sessions for line-by-line testing and local variable tracking. For security compliance, developers are able to create and deploy custom whitelist and backlist templates to limit application access and automate specific security-based actions.

With an integrated AWS lambda console, developers are able to view the real-time performance and health of every serverless application. Thundra can auto-detect and resolve security anomalies and performance issues with AI-driven analysis and anomaly detection. Developers can visualize performance and discover discrepancies using AWS function monitoring charts and graphs such as heat maps for performance and security analysis.

Pros

The best feature is the intuitiveness and ease of use. We can easily go from potential problem to solution in a matter of minutes. And, they are constantly innovating. Their roadmap is always directly in line with our needs. As soon as we identify an improvement or missing enhancement, they either already have a solution or there is one on the way.

Cons

Since they are a newer solution to the market there are a few missing features that some of the old guard monitor tools offer. However, they have been innovating at a pace that has been in line with the needs of our products and processes.

Thundra is essential for monitoring and debugging Serverless applications so I'd recommend to anyone using such technology.

Pros

This tool helped run my side-project with peaceful state of mind. It informs me when there is a failure in our Serverless backend and help me quickly identify and debug executions which failed. I had exceptional customer support and I managed to meet the team and they are really smart and kind people.

Cons

The documentation is a bit sparse. Finding the full list of parameters that we can specify to the agents sometimes is difficult, because there are many places to look for (website, wiki, github, etc). I often found broken links but eveytime the team was able to promptly fix and help me so it was not a big deal.
