Google Alerts

About Google Alerts
Google Alerts is a cloud-based notification platform designed to help businesses receive emails about content changes and new posts across web pages, articles, research papers, and blogs. It enables users to schedule alerts on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
The solution allows users to create the required alerts using keywords, phrases or topics of interest. Users can modify the notification settings based on frequency, types of sites, language preferences, location, number of results, and accounts to receive the alerts. Businesses can also use Google Alerts to determine their market reputation, identify trends, and monitor customer or competitor activities. Plus, it helps end-users choose alerts via the suggestions provided about various topics.
Team members can configure Google Alerts for specific terms as well as sites, using quotes and hyphen signs, allowing businesses to receive site-specific and filtered results. Moreover, it enables users to edit or delete wrongly created alerts as per their requirements.

It's a great tool for solopreneurs

Pros
Technically wise, this product is easy to use, and I get much out of it. I get valuable information. Being up-to-date in a fast and easy way is fundamental in my job.
Cons
As I said earlier, sometimes the results aren't much on target. The most important part of this service is choosing relevant words and phrases. Maybe something could be done to improve the process of optimization and find more contextualized information.

My overall experience with Google Alerts has been good. I have benefitted from getting varied sources of information which I would not have to go and conduct time staking research on.
Pros
Google Alerts keeps me updated with the latest information. Which proves to be useful in my line of work.
Cons
The specific words or search terms used and information shared might not be directly related to my area of expertise. The alerts on specific words at times are not directly relevant to the information I am seeking.

For a free product, Google Alerts is an extremely powerful service that has allowed us to boost our productivity significantly. Our Grants team used to miss out on more than a few publications of funding opportunities and grant competitions, but that has not been the case since we started using Google Alerts to fish out keywords related to our grants of interest. It has really helped us.
Pros
Google alerts is the simplest business tool to set up, and it comes free of any charges. And one of the features I love most about the service is that the flexibility it gives me in setting up the frequency of alerts and notifications. For less urgent subjects, I am able to avoid the inconvenience or distraction real-time alerts would cause; and for the much more pressing ones, I am able to stay on in sync with developments as they happen.
Cons
Given the increased relevance of social media, I think it would be a great addition if Google Alerts were expanded to cover content from major social media platforms as well, since a great majority of interactions happen there.
