Communication tool for businesses and non-profits

About Google Chat

Google Chat is a communication software that helps businesses of all sizes and non-profit organizations collaborate on projects and tasks. It lets users set up virtual chat rooms and chat threads, track task progress, and create follow-up tasks on a centralized platform.

Google Chat enables professionals to automatically receive notifications when users share files and post comments on Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides. Teams can connect the system with Google Calendar to schedule meetings based on staff members’ availability. It also utilizes single sign-on and two-factor authentication methodologies to provide secure user experience whilst maintaining compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, and AICPA regulations and guidelines.

Google Chat comes with an API, which enables businesses to integrate the system with GSuite applications and several third-party solutions. It provides a search functionality, which allows staff members to filter through previous conversations and shared files.

Overall I found Google Chat easy to use, integrate, and train the staff. It is good for team collaboration, easy to share files, and create the workspace.

Pros

I have tried different messaging apps and platforms and Google Chat so far is a very light and easy-to-use app. It offers a variety of features like Real-time Messaging, Spaces, File Sharing, Task Management, and Security. Recently Google Chat has also updated AI features.

Cons

There is a limitation in integrating the codes and logs like Slack within Channels.

Alternatives Considered

Spike, ClickMeeting and Stackby

Reasons for Choosing Google Chat

Slack was expensive and cost more to run. The application takes a lot of RAM and slows down the process.

Reasons for Switching to Google Chat

Cost, ease of use, and simplicity. Chat integrates seamlessly with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, and other Google Workspace apps which makes it easy for us to use all in one workspace.

The integration with Gmail enhances productivity by allowing quick, seamless information exchange (also in group), making it ideal for professional settings.
Similarly, the Google Meet integration streamlines meeting setup with just one click, simplifying remote collaboration.
However, the inability to see if messages have been viewed is a drawback, as it can create uncertainty and delay in communications.
Overall, while the tool is highly useful for professional purposes, adding message read receipts would improve more its functionality.

Pros

Integration with Gmail, very useful for professional scopes mostly when you need to exchange a quick info with your collegues.
Possibility to create groups
Integration with Google meet: with just one click you can send an invitation

Cons

You cannot see if your message was viewed
