VMware Horizon

VDI platform for managing virtual desktops & applications

About VMware Horizon

Horizon is a desktop virtualization software designed to help businesses manage virtual desktops and published applications through digital workspaces. Using the session collaboration module, healthcare professionals and educational institutions can invite multiple users to modify the virtual desktop and collaborate on peer reviews, design iterations, and more.

Administrators can secure the virtual desktop infrastructure and minimize potential data breaches via role-based access control and single sign-on (SSO) capabilities. Using Horizon’s Dynamic Environment Manager, enterprises can configure security policies according to business requirements and enforce them across all desktop environments or end-user profiles. It also provides designers and engineering teams with shared workstations, enabling them to collaborate on graphical 3D projects.

Horizon can be deployed on-premise or hosted in the cloud. Built on a hyper-converged infrastructure solution, it enables IT teams to add individual nodes or appliances, monitor system performance, and identify potential issues through automated alerts and real-time analytics.

Very good experience in general, the software gives a robust experience ofr VDI solutions, only you need to invest time in development.

Pros

The features to display and virtualize a desktop enviironment is very important, the control features with management is very good and intitutive.

Cons

The cost of the software depends of the features that you want and the cost is high if you want all the features, the implementation onsite could be very difficult especially for security and firewall policies. If you decide to have the solution on cloud, you can avoid these but you have to validate if you data can be store in public cloud.

Citrix DaaS

Reasons for Switching to VMware Horizon

Citrix dont have some of the features that the highest version of VMware Horizon gives, for base VDI solution Citrix works very good like VMware Horizon.

I am OK with the software, as it provide what I need to simulate having a physical pc connecting to the client network.

Pros

the main benefit of using this software is, I don't need to connect to my client's network to provide my service.

Cons

performance could be a concern in some circumstances, and nobody know how to diagnose, because it can be the client network, internet provider or the host servers, the possibility is just endless, so nobody take ownership of the problem.
