Virtual reality software for AEC industry

About IrisVR Suite

Prospect by IrisVR is a cloud-based virtual reality (VR) software, which helps educational institutes and architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) businesses design and implement 3D environments for training, demonstration, or product prototyping. Features include collaboration tools, screenshots, multiuser meetings, presenter controls, and multiple headset support.

The application enables engineers to load 3D files, import native BIM metadata, and automatically optimize geometry in VR. Team members can use various components of VR toolkit such as annotations, layers, tape measure, and sun studies to review designs. Prospect also allows supervisors to perform QA/QC tests on models to identify clashes, issues, and items requiring refinement. Educators can demonstrate spatial ramifications of design studies and help students prepare multimedia projects.

It offers integration with various third-party 3D model review applications including Navisworks, Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp. AEC professionals can use Prospect to simulate sequencing and communicate intent to team members through an immersive design. Teams can also collaborate on projects to view designs using VR walkthroughs and interact via voice chat.

Utilized IRIS VR to bring a complex 3D model originally created in AutoDesk Revit into a virtual reality space, enhanced with an Oculus Rift Headset. Software was advertised as "one-click" to VR, and although I was skeptical, it worked. Within seconds, the model was deployed and ran smoothly on the Rift. Regarding pricing, we used the beta version at no charge, and even that functionality was great. With many competing products now emerging, I would give IRIS VR a strong rating.

Pros

Ease of use, rapid transfer from 3D model software to VR deployment

Cons

No cons at this point.

Decent product for converting 3D BIM models from revit to VR.

Reviewed on 2018/09/26

Pros

Editing models in VR environment is a good feature. Its good platform for Revit users. Can handle multiple models merged in a single file.

Cons

The rendering quality of the models in Iris Vr is not the best when compared to Enscape. Its doesnt feel very realistic in the VR atmosphere.
