Visual Studio Code

Source code editing for MacOS, Windows and Linux

About Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio Code is a source code editor, which helps businesses build and debug web applications running on Windows, Linux, and macOS. Features include syntax highlighting, code refactoring and navigation, snippets, Emmet abbreviations, command-line interface (CLI), and text wrap.

The software lets developers edit codes using multi-cursor, shrink/expand selection, autosave, hot exit, and find and replace capabilities. With IntelliSense, users can receive suggestions about list members, function definitions, parameter info, or variable types while writing codes. The built-in debugging tool allows programmers to edit, compile, and debug loops, enable breakpoints to suspend the running code and view variables or behavior of memory, and log a message to the console using logpoint.

Visual Studio Code offers integration with GitHub, helping developers share source codes with team members, clone a repository, as well as view and manage pull requests. It provides refactoring operations, extract method and extract variable, which lets users improve code base through restructure, without modifying the runtime behavior.

Best Editor/IDE ever!

Visual Studio Code is definitely the tool you may want to consider if you use products such as Atom, Sublime Text and so on. As a lot of people is using it, you will probably find someone supporting you in case you need help. Microsoft also does offer a lot of documentation and support channels. If you're still not using this, consider doing the switch now!

Pros

Since Sublime Text I was always searching for a good valuable Editor and IDE that can be extended and integrated with the vast majority of languages and tools available around, while developing software. Luckily Microsoft came up with VSCode, which not only provides a very good an fast editor, compared to its competitors, but also a very IDE even for debugging purposes. Whichever language you need to develop with, you are covered.

The tool offers also plugins (extensions) which can be found and installed directly from the marketplace.

Cons

The only cons I could think of, is the fact that the tool is based on Electron which suffer from performance issues, although Microsoft has done a lot to improve this aspect. Nevertheless if an alternative engine could be found, which could improve this factor, would make it the perfect tool!

Best editor for programmers

The experience with Visual Studio Code was excellent and very helpful.

Pros

Most important feature is that it supports variety of programming languages. It can also be used as a good debugger. It is fast. It has no limits in extending its capability and functionality using huge library of plugins / extensions directly downloadable within its own window. It has good syntax highlighter to easily handle the code. It easily catch errors in code. It has good intellisense which helps in easy and fast development.

Cons

It lacks a form designer which can make it more powerful and a complete package. It has some negligible performance issues with multiple large files.

Basic coding and general development issues. Not my first IDE to turn to. Benefits: Fast and easy to use and quick loading time if you need something faster than standard VS IDE.

Pros

I like the simple layout is and easy to use interface. It does not take up that much memory and developers can perform most functions using code. I also like the ability to launch code from PowerShell or Command Prompt. Another thing I like is it allows for old-school coders to go to something with no frills or thrills. This is good for someone who doesn't want to add additional packages or features to a program.

Cons

Packages need to be installed via command prompt and ran through node.js to work within code. It takes too much time outside of developing. That is why I use standard Visual Studio because it is easier to add a NuGet Package from the VS interface than going through node.js.

I use VSCode most of my web development time except writing PHP code. Built in terminal really helps me to save time and it is very convenient. And large amount of way to solve things like automation for running nodejs and good shortcuts allow me to work efficient with the editor.

Pros

I like it's performance and IDE like experience while doing my web development. And it's modern solutions are very impressive. The terminal and extensions are make it very extendable and flexible. I can't go on without mentioning the version control system integration. Also I trust with VSCode because Microsoft is behind it. I am a shortcut guy so it fulfills my need.

Cons

Actually so for I didn't face any problem, usually I find a way to solve issues, because it has big community and big market for extension development. Once thing I dislike is, it lacks formatting HTML code sometimes. I don't know why, maybe I use not a good extension for HTML formatter.

Way faster and easy to use, most of the development tools are there as plugins making it easy to work with it

Pros

Vs code is light weight which makes development more faster , the plugins they provide are so helpful you can switch between programming and still get the hints as if you are using a custom text editor.
VS code ships with a terminal that makes it easy to build code using commands and that git be easy to do too.
The most helpful feature for mobile development is that you can start the app which boots up the emulator from within

Cons

Working with two projects open on the editor is issue, which makes its a process to copy code from other project files.
It does not provide a wizard for creating projects
