Edpuzzle

About Edpuzzle
Edpuzzle is a learning management system designed to help K-12 teachers, schools and districts create video lessons and track students' progress on a unified platform. Educators can add or embed voice narrations, audio notes, and questions into learning content according to individual requirements.
Using Edpuzzle, schools of all sizes can choose videos from third-party platforms such as YouTube, Crash Course, and Khan Academy, among others, or record and upload custom videos to create lessons. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-compliant platform enables educators to train new teachers on school procedures. Students can also complete lessons and access personalized assignments.
Edpuzzle facilitates integration with various third-party systems such as Google Classroom, Blackbaud, Moodle, Canvas, and more. Teachers also can share video lessons with colleagues, collaborate on learning content and monitor students' activities.

Overall, I highly recommend EdPuzzle. It is a great tool for student engagement and holds student attention well.
Pros
EdPuzzle is an engaging tool for students to use. Students love learning through videos, and EdPuzzle holds student attention because it allows you to insert questions throughout the video. I also love that it has the automatic pause when the tab is changed; this requires students to focus on the video rather than just let it play. I appreciate that it automatically grades multiple choice questions. You are able to trim videos and delete sections to really customize the assignment to meet the needs of your students.
Cons
The limit on video storage with the free version is disappointing. I would like if the software had the capability of an answer key for open ended questions.

2024 EdPuzzle: Ridiculous Limitations on Content Amount
Reviewed on 2024/10/23
Pros
- Variety of available videos
- Ease of integrating with common school district student platforms
- Ability to edit videos that are already made
Cons
For the last 10 years, I have used Edpuzzle in a variety of school settings and was relatively pleased with it's predictability, wide range of available videos, and features available in the Free Plan.
However, a recent structure change in the account types has left me entirely disappointed and limited my use of Edpuzzle. The new limit of 20 videos for the free version is unrealistic. Additionally, deleting videos doesn't result in the having more available storage space. The only advice for educators who do not have a school able to purchase the Pro Plan is the following "If you're not able to share Edpuzzle or get your school to upgrade to a Pro School plan, you might consider getting an individual Pro Teacher license to enjoy unlimited videos." A cost of $162 a year for a profession that is historically and widely underpaid, it is disappointing this is the solution from an education company tailored to teachers and students. I understand that there are licenses available to districts, but in large or underfunded districts, approval for these licenses is not a guarantee. Placing a price tag on access to available resources contributes to the disparities that exist between affluent school districts and low income school districts. Additionally, the solution that encourages teachers to just buy it themselves exploits the characteristic selflessness of teachers. Why not just refer 3 teacher friends to get a 3 video increase for each new teacher signed up? Each teacher at my school has an account linked to our learning management system. Again it is exploiting the teachers' willingness to do more work in order to better serve their students by asking the teacher to jump through another hoop to 'earn' videos. It should not be the responsibility of teachers to recruit more users for a edtech company that generates millions of dollars in revenue yearly. Overall, the recent plan changes have left me feeling less than "empowered" as an educator, which is what is the alleged mission of Edpuzzle.

A must-have tool for teachers and professors
Reviewed on 2024/05/07
Pros
I like being able to upload lectures so I don't have to repeat the same information over and over. It's helpful for students to refer back to and makes my job easier. I also love the options for students to interact with the material as they watch and all of the customizations.
Cons
The auto-grading doesn't send notifications through my LMS (Canvas), so I don't know when students finish videos unless I manually go in and check.
