Learning management system for educational institutions

About Duolingo

Duolingo is a learning management system that helps schools offer bite-sized learning modules to teach speaking and reading different languages including Spanish, French, Italian, German, French, and English. The platform offers gamified lessons, which enable trainees to learn and incorporate grammar and vocabulary skills.

Teachers can define classroom instructions, track students’ progress against learning goals, and share personalized feedback on a unified interface. Duolingo offers iOS and Android mobile applications, allowing teams to download multiple training lessons and view them in offline mode. Students can also reset languages in profiles and follow or block team members on a centralized dashboard.

Duolingo lets trainers login via Facebook and Google credentials and manage parental controls. Learners can also compete with other trainees, track scores via leaderboards in real-time, and access Duolingo stories to attempt exercises based on reading and listening comprehension.

Great way to learn the basics of a new language

Reviewed on 2024/04/01

Pros

There's a great variety of languages available and I like that it offers a placement test if you're already a bit familiar with the language

Cons

Because I'm living in countries where I'm also learning the languages on Duolingo, I'm learning at a faster rate than the application and I find I eventually get bored at the level it put me at in the beginning as I've surpassed it with real-life learning and development. So I end up stop using the app. Would love to be offered a level placement reassessment for such cases.

The best language learning app so far

Reviewed on 2024/06/08

Pros

It is a learning app that offers everything, from an entertaining and interactive way to learn a new language, certification programs, courses for new learners, advanced learners, or children, and a great variety of languages. To spur your language development they set up ranking lists, you can also view your progress.

Cons

The only drawback I found so far is the limited grammar lessons. For each lesson, the grammar explanation although they are well-written, only scratches the surface, they don't get into details.

it's ok.
I am learning Spanish, but it's very frustrating to lost points or not get the points I worked hard to obtain.

Pros

I like the lessons, the ways to learn. Duolingo used to have Podcasts in the language I am learning and in English, so I could listen and learn. That was discontinued.

Cons

It's a total competition! And lately, either the points are wrong or I get no points at all (like this morning) for 20 minutes of learning.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still learning, but if Duolingo is going to force you to compete, I need my points.

The only app that managed to keep me coming back to study a language. Very good at making me to open the app every day.

Pros

Very good at reminding and motivating me to do another class to extend my streak. Duolingo's ability to engage users must be studied as a great business case.

Cons

Some of their icons when a Duolingo becomes ill. You can design better.
