Navisworks

About Navisworks
Navisworks by Autodesk is a project review solution designed specifically to improve BIM coordination for architecture, engineering, and construction professionals. It offers 3D model review capabilities and can combine data from multiple trades into a single model. The software works with Windows 10 operating systems and has other install requirements.
Two versions of the software are available, Navisworks Simulate and Navisworks Manage. Using a Clash Detective tool, Navisworks Manage users can identify and report interference and any clashes that were missed during model inspections. The tool can help prevent costly delays in project completion. The software also provides a range of model simulation and viewing features, such as 5D simulation, photorealistic model rendering, appearance profiler, real-time AutoCAD model navigation, and more.

Overall very pleased with this software, it has supported our development with BIM projects and clash detection on projects. The complexities of learning mean time is required to get the most out of this. The cost is an issue as well as the lack of development over the last ten years - it has not changed significantly during this time.
Pros
This software combines a number of different functions - programming, quantity tool and clash detection. We have used this mainly for clash detection and this is where the software excels. It is difficult to learn but once this has been established it is an invaluable tool when working on BIM projects and collaborating across consultants.
Cons
Complex to learn and expensive. Also when compared with Solibri it does not have the same abilities to interrogate information in the same way.

Navisworks Really Works

The ability to track project progress in a 3D view is precious. It offers a clear understanding of how elements comes together. By simulating the actual implementation of components and identifying conflicts between systems, Navisworks helps teams to address potential issues early, saving time and resources. The clash detection feature, which highlights overlaps and potential interferences between mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), structural, and architectural elements, ensures that problems are resolved in the virtual model before physical construction begins.
Pros
The feature that I like most about Navisworks is that excels in providing a comprehensive approach to Building Information Modelling (BIM) by integrating 3D modelling and simulation capabilities. This feature allows for detailed analysis and coordination across various systems. Its powerful features help teams visualize the entire project lifecycle and make informed decisions. Navisworks is a powerful tool for project coordination, simulation, and clash detection, and it’s great that it simplifies complex tasks and boosts collaboration.
Cons
The least that I like about Navisworks is the general knowledge of operating it. This is a major drawback of the software it is not necessarily intuitive for new users. It often requires consistent practice and familiarity to stay up-to-date with all of its features, which can be frustrating if you only need to use it occasionally. The interface can be overwhelming, with many tools and options that might not be immediately obvious, which often results in a "use it or lose it" scenario.
