AWS CloudTrail

About AWS CloudTrail
AWS CloudTrail is a cloud-based software designed to help businesses monitor the activities of AWS accounts and manage various operational processes related to compliance, auditing, and more. Supervisors can perform security analysis and view, search or download the required event history of selected AWS accounts.
AWS CloudTrail allows organizations to track resource changes and automatically respond to potential account threats. The application integrates with Amazon CloudWatch Events, which helps managers configure workflows according to requirements and detect suspicious activities or potential vulnerabilities, such as spikes in resource provisioning or services. It also lets users detect data exfiltration and ensure compliance with various regulatory standards.
AWS CloudTrail enables businesses to leverage the API call history to troubleshoot security and operational issues. The software also helps users deliver log files from various regions, validate their integrity, and encrypt all log files to prevent unauthorized data exploitation.

User controls and auditing
Reviewed on 2022/12/18
Pros
Cloudtrail is important to monitor activities across multiple resources - such as programmatic changes that were made to resources or even bad actors since it fully logs all activities on AWS resources (such as various DBs).
Cons
The biggest challenge with using Cloudtrail is effectively filtering for activity you're interested in. This is more from the nature of the problem than Cloudtrail itself. The thoroughness of the information being logged within Cloudtrail includes quite a bit of information that is not necessarily relevant for incident management.
