Talos OS

About Talos OS
Designed from the ground up for Kubernetes, Talos OS has everything you need to run a stable secure cluster and nothing you don't.
Run the same image on docker, qemu, Raspberry Pi, bare metal, VMware, or other cloud providers. All with the same API management, vanilla Kubernetes.
Talos OS is free and open-source, but has enterprise support and professional services available with expert guidance so you can be up and running quickly, reliably, and securely.
With controllers for machine configuration and cluster management, Talos OS brings the declarative Kubernetes paradigm to the operating system and the cluster.
Talos OS includes KubeSpan. As a Kubernetes aware operating system, Talos OS with KubeSpan allows you to add worker nodes anywhere, on any network, and with a single configuration, the flag has that node join an existing cluster, even behind a firewall. All securely, with all traffic encrypted transparently.
Key benefits of Talos OS
• A minimal OS means less vulnerabilities. Less to attack. Less to audit.
• API managed means robust and powerful automation. Whether you manage one node or 1000 clusters, it just as easy.
• Talos OS installs and updates Kubernetes clusters in minutes, making it easy to stay current and avoid CVEs.
• Embedded best practices provide guidance in managing and upgrading clusters.

Talos OS is a perfect fit when you want to run Kubernetes on bare metal.
Installation and configuration is fully declarative and relatively easy compared to other server OSes.
OS upgrades are done automatically and safely, which saves a lot of recurring maintenance.
Pros
Talos OS only runs Kubernetes and nothing more, which fits the Linux philosophy 'do one thing and do it well'.
There is no SSH, no shell and no package manager, which is great from a security perspective.
Sidero labs also publishes a neat 'talosctl' CLI for reading logs and system info for all your debugging needs.
Cons
There is currently (version 0.12.3) limited support for hardware, only in-tree kernel drivers are supported.
Most mainstream devices work out-of-the-box, but more exoctic hardware is harder to get working.
