API documentation and management solution

About ReadMe

ReadMe is an interactive developer hub that transforms static API documentation into dynamic hubs. With features like public and private hubs, OpenAPI sync, GraphQL support, an API playground, code snippets, suggested edits, version control, unified navigation, branding controls, content widgets, markdown formatting, native search, usage metrics, real-time logs, discussions and more, ReadMe aims to provide a modern developer experience.

The hub focuses on critical points in the developer journey - onboarding, troubleshooting, and keeping users informed. For onboarding, ReadMe's guides and "Try it" playground allow new developers to quickly explore capabilities and make first calls. When issues inevitably occur, shareable API logs enable joint understanding and faster resolution. Ongoing usage metrics help teams prioritize enhancements based on real-world usage data. Features like changelogs and forums ensure developers stay updated on the latest releases and roadmap.

With its emphasis on usability, transparency, and communication, ReadMe transforms traditional reference docs into living hubs where developers can not just find information, but build community. ReadMe offers both self-service and enterprise options to meet the scale and permissions needs of small startups to large organizations.

Best documentation for developers

Reviewed on 2022/09/01

Pros

ReadMe has one of the best API reference tools I've ever used. API consumers can interact with the API from the documentation page directly without further setup. The dashboard also helps give insights into how the API is used.

Cons

Not fully supporting OpenAPI 3.0, we have to write some script to workaround the issue.

It's fine if you only want a very basic doc site. If you want anything more, this is not for you. Support is also very laggy.

Pros

The Suggest Edits feature is really good. Users can send suggested edits which you can merge directly into the documentation.

Cons

Very basic features, no image library, buggy search, proprietary Markdown (tables, images, code blocks, etc.), very basic branding, almost unusable on mobile, PDF feature doesn't work, very limited account types (either Admin or Reader, but nothing in between), etc.

We ran into an issue and the team was extremely responsive, including the
[SENSITIVE CONTENT] himself. Very impressed.

Pros

Documentating APIs, both for OpenAPI specs and custom ones, was really easy to do. The CMS system is simple and easy to use, and never had an issue with loosing work. Fast and responsing.

Cons

I wish they had a dark mode (apparently it is coming soon) and more preset themes, however they do allow for custom CSS.
