A manager draws the shifts, by hand, from a template or from a copy of any past week, and presses Auto-assign. Within seconds the proposal is back: who goes where, each shown with the answer that person gave, and every slot it could not fill listed with the reason and with who could still be placed there by hand. The rules it keeps are the workplace's own: the qualifications each position requires, approved time off, recurring and one-off unavailability, per-shift force include or exclude, shifts a person marked Can't, no overlapping shifts for anyone, and each person's hour limits — per day, week or month, consecutive days and rest between shifts, the last two counted within the week being filled. Mandatory shifts are staffed before important ones, and important before optional. A run can keep the manager's own placements and staff only the rest, or start fresh. Nothing is saved until the manager applies it, and an applied proposal can be edited by hand, or undone from the builder.\n\nWhat staff answers do. When a week is opened, staff rank the shifts they are eligible for on five levels, from Want a lot to Can't, either shift by shift or on windows the manager defines, such as mornings and nights, until preferences close. Auto-assign never places anyone on a shift they marked Can't, and it favours the shifts people asked for. Each person states the weekly hours they would like, and unless a run switches it off, hours are spread towards those targets. Per run, a manager decides whether people who gave no answer are treated as available or left out, and any person can be excluded from Auto-assign while still being placed by hand.\n\nHow much say staff have is a set of workplace settings rather than a fixed design. A week can be built and published without being opened to staff at all. The number of Can't answers allowed can be zero or any number, and can differ for a given week or person. Outside mandatory shifts, Auto-assign can place anyone the rules permit, or only people who asked for the shift. Each publish asks whether staff see only their own shifts, the whole schedule, or the whole schedule for holders of chosen qualifications such as shift managers. Under every setting, staff enter their own recurring and one-off unavailability, and a manager can override it on a single shift. A claim on an open shift nobody is on and a time-off request are always a manager's decision. For a handover or a swap between two people, a workplace setting decides whether a manager approves the result or the two of them settle it between themselves, and a workplace can switch handovers off altogether. Hour limits still apply to a trade colleagues settle themselves.\n\nOnce a week is published, staff read their own shifts and the next one they are on, and an inbox records what changed — a week published, a shift moved, a request answered — with the same notices by email for anyone who turns that switch on. When a published week changes, the manager chooses whether to tell only the people whose shifts moved, or everyone. Weeks and reports export to Excel and CSV, and the roster prints.\n\nTwelve languages are available — English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew — with right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew, and each person picks their own along with their date format. Staff use the Android app on Google Play, or any phone's browser.
