About Cloudflare

Cloudflare speeds up and accelerates your site by distributing your sites content around the world then delivering it using the fattest pipes and the best protocols. By using HTTP/2 with an SPDY fallback, Cloudflare can deliver content rapidly to your end users. Using 79 datacenters (and growing) around the world, Cloudflare can ensure your content is never too far away from your end user. Through Railgun, Cloudflare can eliminate costly delays caused by the speed of light when distributing dynamic content.

Cloudflare has consistently set records for mitigating the largest DDOS attacks. Cloudflare can protect your website from content scraping through reputation checks and application level attacks through a Web Application Firewall (e.g. for SQL Injection and XSS attacks). When Cloudflare successfully defended Spamhaus, Akamai's chief architect stated it was "the largest publicly announced DDoS attack in the history of the Internet."

Cloudflare operates one of the fastest and most secure DNS networks in the world with advanced functionality including CNAME Flattening and Instant DNS Updates.

Key benefits of Cloudflare

Cloudflare protects web traffic transmitted over WebSockets or HTTP, while also offering a DNS hosting service. Cloudflare can mitigate attacks to web applications through protecting your web hosting by routing requests through Cloudflare. Additionally, Cloudflare's extensive network, which spans across 100 cities in 49 countries, means that content can be cached and accelerated at high speed to your end user regardless of server location. By distributing this content over the latest web protocols such as HTTP/2 and SPDY, Cloudflare ensures that web applications are loading and operating at the fastest speeds possible. Cloudflare also offers Content and Image Optimization to enhance speeds across all web properties.

Best CDN ever

Reviewed on 2022/08/15

The best CDN ever, really. I have nothing else to say.

The best CDN ever, really. I have nothing else to say.

Pros

I can only say positive things about Cloudflare: it is fast, very easy to set up, never gives problems, it helps you even when the site temporarily goes out of service, you do not need assistance because you already know that you will not have big problems. All this is free (unless you need some specific options that you will pay dearly)

Cons

I would have only two details to say:
When you add the site in Cloudflare, he goes to scan all the possible subdomains and, if he receives the famous answer 200 (so that the page, and consequently the subdomain, exists) he will automatically add it. What does it mean? Some hosting always give a positive answer, even if the subdomain doesn't exist. In this case CF will create hundreds of non-existent DNS records to be deleted one by one (because it does not provide for bulk deletion)
Second thing is that unfortunately it does not plan to have dedicated IPs, even in the high paying plans.

Cloudflare has helped us to optimize and secure a lot of websites for both our clients and personal businesses. The experience so far has been great.

Pros

Cloudflare has a lot of features that can help optimize any website speed and performance, it also offers free security tools to protect website from popular cyber attacks. Some of the features I use frequently on cloudflare includes, the free SSL certificate to encrypt data from the host to cloudflare network and to the browser of the user. The content delivery network feature, web caching, Speed tools and protection services against hackers. Above all, most of these features on cloudflare are free to use, no charges at all, and they are very easy to setup. The extra features that are not free are also very affordable.

Cons

I have no complains since I have been using their service. It is really a great tool.

It served me well for a very long period, but it never mitigated any of my DDoS attacks. It did helped me when managing DNS was a pain in the ass.
BUt eventually I found out that it was slowing my website. Since I moved away from it and got separate services to do what CF used to (DNS, protection, analytics), I got way better services and faster sites.

Pros

It sure makes managing your sites's DNS and main configurations handy by centralizing them. It offers nice redirection features and a whole bunch of features like apps and protection, cdn, etc.

Cons

But the service has been packing so many features that though it looks like advantage when it's not.

The greatest thing on the internet

Reviewed on 2023/01/09

Pros

I use Cloudflare on every single one of my sites. It is usually the first thing I set up as I also use it for my DNS records. Not only does it improve the security and speed of your site, but the mail routing feature is also a very welcome addition that I have just recently started using. Another great thing is their Zaraz feature, which can reduce the number of requests to your site.

Cons

I think the menu system could be a little simpler, but once you use it for a little bit, you get used to the amount of features.

Great AIO solution to secure all your web resources

When I came to the company, no one was engaged in the organization of security for web resources. Almost immediately I chose Cloudflare, set up this service, and since then I follow the analytics and turn on new features. We are satisfied with everything and we plan to stay further with Cloudflare.

Pros

I like the fact that the service is constantly being improved and adds new features, which allows you to abandon other services and use everything to ensure security in one place. Most of all I want to allocate 2 features - it is a CDN and protection against DDOS. It works just great.

Cons

Some settings are not in the obvious places for them, you have to google and read the documentation to reach them.

Alternatives Considered

Google Cloud CDN, CDN77, Microsoft Azure and AWS WAF
